Westlands Water District Banner ?

Post by MichaelB »

Sorry Westernbass, you probably have no control over the Google Ad Banner rolling across this forum, but how did the Westlands Water District, one of the primary rapists of the California Delta get a banner on this site ?

WesternBass has no control over the ads.

Google determines the ads based on information by each target viewer... meaning their Adsense shown to each viewer is different to each viewer, depending on what Google knows about the viewer. You will see something related to what Google "knows" about you and the next guy will see something related to what Google "knows" about them.

They deliver what they believe will most be relevant and engaging to each viewer depending on past searches etc. Just like the top two lines of Google mail now has two targeted ad emails within the inbox. I believe these show in the inboxes other than primary.

In the end, Google's theory is that each viewer controls their own ads by what they visit, click on, search for etc. For example, if you logged in to Discover to pay your bill last night, you may see a Discover ad and if the Best Buy weekly flyer was in your email and you clicked in to see what was on sale, you may see an ad for them as specific as the exact product that you clicked on to see the details of.

This isn't specific to WesternBass, you should notice on Google Adsense everywhere... on the top right of the banner ad, you can click on their icon and Google is allowing viewers to manage their ads. You can tell them what is inappropriate or showing to often or give your input on the ads they show you on any page.

It's kind of scary when a computer decides what you see. I know it's "smart", but is it really?
