Late Late Season Fishing

Post by ttb31183 »

Yesterday I made it out to the lake and was greeted with 40.6-degree water temperature when I launched the boat. That made it very difficult for me to find any bass, but some people I know are still catching them...and big ones! The surprising thing is how shallow they are fishing and having success for largemouth.

Proving that it is almost never too cold to throw a swimbait, Yah-Tsheng Moua caught this giant northern strain largemouth with 40-degree water and a 35-degree air temp.

They have also been catching some big ones on jerkbaits. Something I tried and tried and tried yesterday without success. Here is another one he caught.

After scanning basically every depth from 0-50 yesterday, there were concentrations of fish in around 10 feet and then around the 35 to 40-foot mark. For me, this was about all I could muster. Tons of aggressive perch were biting just about anything in the water. It is amazing how active these fish are when it gets cold and makes sense why they are so willing to bite when ice fishing.

The good news was that I had my iPad and Navionics app running and connected to my Lowrance units. I was able to record tons of sonar to improve the lake's map.

I'm headed back out again tomorrow and hope to have some fish pics to share of fish I was fortunate to catch.
