This is sad news ! Is it me, or does it seem like there have been a lot of boat related deaths this year ? It's almost like every weekend we hear of a death on the water. Please be careful out there, watch out for the other guy and be courteous !! Be safe !!

We need to discuss this folks, as this is actually more important than fishing. What in the hell is going on with all of these boating accidents nationwide? I finally paid my dues to be able to get my family into a fantastic boat, but with all of this grim news, I'll be honest- I'm a little bit weary now. What can this be attributed to? Novice boaters? Intoxication? Congestion on the water? All of the above? If any one has any insight please share because this is getting downright scary. Can anything be done other than the obvious? Will licensing have any affect? I'm just trying to wrap my head around this uptick. I hate to be an alarmist, but these reports are quite alarming.

At first was thinking the CA boaters license was not such a good idea, now having second thoughts. May be a good idea for boaters to review some safety regulations.

Six people in a ski boat, driver drunk and not paying attention. Very tragic result, but you can't operate a boat in this fashion.

Unfortunately you can’t fix stupid. Drinking and then putting a boat full of people at risk.

Prayers for the family of the deceased.

I had a friend who called it the freeway complex, only way people know how to drive. Boats to big, people to me first, shame but the way it is. I fish a 700 acre private lake docks full of giant wakeboard boats driven by people who've never been told no in their lives, down right scary. I give it up after memorial day

Here are the rules....

While it isn't illegal to drink alcohol on a boat, it is against the law to operate a vessel while under the influence of intoxicating liquor or drugs. The blood alcohol limit for boating is the same as that for driving a car - 0.08%. A person convicted of Boating Under the Influence (BUI) may receive a fine of up to $1,000 and six months in jail. More importantly, alcohol consumption by the vessel operator or passengers is a factor in approximately 25% of all fatal motorboat accidents in California and BUI has become the leading contributing factor in fatal recreational boating accidents. It is recommended that boaters avoid drinking alcoholic beverages which can impair a boater’s judgment, balance, vision, and reaction time.

Here is where it came from...https://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=18578
In the beginning, there was nothing, then suddenly there was something, then it exploded and turned into everything in the universe, all by itself. OR In the beginning, God created the heavens and the Earth.

Just wondering... is there really more accidents or is there just more info about it being released with social media/internet etc. Maybe more info getting out there means more people are aware of it, so maybe they are safer on the water, wearing vests. Don't know. Just wondering.

For example, here are some news briefs that came thru the newsfeed about boat crashes just in the last 72 hours. They aren't all fishing boats; but regardless we are all on the same water.

Be safe out there... Memorial Weekend next weekend. It's gonna get crazy.
