Help - weird Boonedox install

I just got my new (to me) yak and it comes with a boonedox landing gear but not installed.
At the back of the seat, i see two grey looking patch which i assume is someone's attempt at installing the boonedox? The boonedox did NOT come with the backing plates i see on youtube so i'm guessing someone couldn't figure out how to put the backing plate UNDER the yak, so they decided to epoxy(?) it on top hoping it will give it strength?

Any thoughts/suggestions welcomed!!! many thanks in advanced!
