I want to try and do some top water for stripers this fall. I was wondering what super spook color and size works in the delta.
Thanks,
Louie
What super spook do you use for stripers in the delta?
Re: What super spook do you use for stripers in the delta?
I've always been partial to Super Spooks in the Houston's Okie Shad color (the one w/ chartreuse back) but any general baitfish/shad color will do.
Be sure to change out the hardware to a stronger, premium variety (Hyperwire split rings, 2X strong trebles). You'll get different opinions on what size hooks to change out to--some guys like to take off the middle hook and replace the front and rear with size 1/0 or larger trebles. That configuration works. I've also used three size 1 trebles without the fouling/hangups that you'd expect to happen.
Another couple mods:
* Add a split ring or snap to the line tie for more action
* Use a feathered rear treble. If you can't find pre-tied hooks in the right size, sparse mylar flash works nicely too
