Quitting

I read alot about everyone quitting smoking or chewing for all the right reasons. My questions are is there ever a time or reason not to quit? Say you have a crappy job & boss, or the birth of a child, or the death of a friend or relative. Would you ever tell someone in those situations to just man up qnd quit being a wuss. Or, are these just excuses just to keep on continuing with the bad habit?
