Routing transducer cabling?

Post by Morgan »

Is it better to route the cables from an external transducer mounted on the trolling motor up the shaft and at the head tie along the flexible foot control cable to the boat or up the shaft and at the head (where in this case, a Foretrex that separates), down the arm to the base?
I'm not even sure when I would have the need to separate the head from the arm unless replacement was needed.
My previous trolling motor had it Ty-raped to the foot control cable.

It is a matter of preference but I like to make a turn at the head creating a loop for the extension of the deployment of the trolling motor and go down the other part of the trolling motor bracket. I like the foot control cable to be as light and flexible as possible.

It's really your choice and you can try it one way for a while and then change it to the other way and decide which way you prefer. It's just a matter of using a few cable ties and I find the more you play with doing this stuff the more you learn about your boat and this experience can pay dividends sometime when you are out on the water and something goes wrong. Experience is the best teacher.
