Re: Western WA

You won't regret it, the bass fishing is excellent once you figure out the differences. Just realize there are no threadfin shad for forage; it changes how the bass feed and act. Crayfish are big here, and various other baitfish like sculpin, stickleback, yellow perch, smelt, trout, and many more.

Tom, that is a great story. I am guessing it will be years before you can catch another Mama Pesce from that same spot due to the water levels we face now. Although I have no data to confirm my suspicions, I suspect the drought is significantly affecting the entire food chain. The lack of water runo...

I agree that you should experiment with your frequency use as the best changes with water and depth considerations. I generally use High or Medium Chirp. I also sometimes run 83 KHz and chirp at the same time to avoid crosstalk (unless I have sonar networked). For downscan I generally use 800 and fo...

Re: Casitas bass

I am pretty concerned as well, Tom; the bait is just not there and what shad has appeared so far is tiny. I had hoped the bait was stacked up in deep water, and had yet to move shallow but that seems less likely now that a thermocline is at 20 feet and shad are not above it. We need some baitfish to...

That rod should work fine for open hook applications and light line as stated above, especially dropshotting with a nose-hooked worm using a Gamakatsu dropshot hook. When you get a bite you reel quickly until the rod loads up. In most cases you don't need to set the hook with an open hook, but I pre...

Tom,
Casitas bass just came off the spawn which is one reason they are so skinny now. The shad have also not yet moved shallow where most of the bass still are. Give it a few weeks and it will likely get better.
