I think it is a great format for TV. Pretty good format for the anglers as well from what I can see. IIRC it was developed by Outdoor channel and 12-14 top pros to create a new format. From the pros perspective it seems as though they are always in it, if they can just find the right pattern. Meanin...

You might try contacting Castro Valley Bass Classics. I belonged back in the late '90's early 00's, but two more kids at the time cut into my availability.

Not sure they are still around, but they had a schedule on their website for 2017 tournaments.

It looks like the toxic algae isn't just a California problem. Although the article makes a mention of climate change/global warming, it focuses on the massive runoff from agriculture/livestock across the whole country and how little is being done to stop it. Not a biologist, but if the die off was correlated to a need to thin out the population to improve the quality I would expect to catch skinny, big headed bass. Another option could be one of the cabins or trailers at Collins Lake. They aren't cheap, but all you would bring is food and sleeping bags/linens. Everything else is included.

Might be more fun than staying at a motel and you could fish a little at the end of the day if you like.
