Halloween Striper Report: Monster Mash!!

The 2017 fall striper run has been spotty at best. Waves of fresh fish move in every few weeks, we seem to locate them and get a few days of action, then they disappear. We continue to throw the big glide baits and magnum top water plugs in hopes of connecting with a trophy, usually we come up short...

SIMMS! ProDry is pricey, but super light and bone dry.

When buying any fishing gear, I go by the motto : "Buy it nice, or by it twice".

Don't skimp on equipment that will keep you dry and warm. Or, you may end up cold and wet and quitting early..

Re: Giant Lineside on the Deps SS250

I had a couple 30 plus inch stripers follow up my D-bomb while pitching tulles on the Molekummne a mile north of Tower Park. Not sure if that's normal for them to be that far up this time of year...but I got a good look at them right next to the boat....and they were stripers. Those could be reside...

JC- Yeah they get marked up big time when they come over from Japan. You can usually get deals on Ebay, Japanese tackle shops and even used on fishing forums. I've never paid retail, usually I can find them for $80-$100. $100+ swimbaits aren't for evreyone. But, I always ask other anglers, how much ...

We've been struggling to put a consistent pattern together over the last few weeks, but every now and then we get the right kind of bite! On this day we saw the tide would be primo around sunrise, but launched extra early to be in position. It was pitch black and too dark to see my top water plug, s...

We've been fishing both sides of the system. The SJ side from Franks out to Anitoch and the Sac side from Sherman up to Minor. Have to cover a ton of water to find a good school that will bite on top.

Delta Striper Report

The 2017 fall striper run has kicked off with a bang! After chasing schoolies and dinks Labor day weekend, we made some adjustments and found the grade we were after. This last week the morning and evening topwater bite has been on fire! Multiple fish in the 10-20lb range and a few close calls on th...

Where the heck are you fishing? We checked the usual spots on the SJ river on Sat and didn't mark any fish at most of them. None.. We soaked live bait on a shoal that had a few marks on it , but no takers. The upper SJ from Pirates down to 3mile is pretty dirty and not much life. We were fishing so...

Weekend Striper Report

Another successful weekend of chasing the jailbirds! Our numbers have gone down slightly but the quality is getting better. I'm sure if we chose to downsize our lures to traditional offering like 5" swimbaits and rattle traps we pick up way more fish. But, the big glide baits have been addictin...

Been a busy couple weeks out on the Delta. We've made a quick transition from chasing down small pockets of fishable water, to now having a open playing field of hungry stripers. Our search started a few weeks ago and lead us to the back sloughs of the east delta. There we found a small stretch of 2...

Re: YOUR Favorite Swimbait rod and why?

1-4oz baits like small S-wavers and 6-8in Hudds I use a Phenix M1 MH SB 8' rod. Light weight and soft enough tip once it breaks in.

Larger baits in the 4-10oz size like Mags, Deps and mag topwater plugs I'll use a Phenix UMBX Classix SB H 8' rod or a M1 inshore 7'11" H.

Went on the hunt for some stripers in the East delta this weekend. We found some cleaner water with temps 55-57 degrees. Threw the big glides for a few followers and a few bumps. Finally gave in and downsized to a SP110 on the spinning rod. That was the ticket as we boated 8 fish Friday morning, 12 ...

I fished there Sunday 2/12 from my Kayak. We focused on the main lake around the causeway and adjacent points. Nothing on reaction baits. We finally found a school in the afternoon on a secondary point. They bit the dropshot and shakey head pretty good. Between two of us we caught 7-8 spots and a co...

I only use the Modified Albright. 8-12 turns up and down. I primarily chase stripers and run 40-65 braid to short 3ft 20-30lb flouro leaders. I've landed many 20-30lb class stripers and have yet to have a leader knot fail on me.

Just a quick weekend re-cap. We fished before, during and after the huge storm that came over the weekend.
