I received a second email from Lowrance saying that mounting the transducer with the pointed end facing forward creates less cavitation or disturbance around the transducer. It shouldn't matter if it is reversed as long as the transducer is facing down.

Re: Hook 5 Downscan HDI Transducer Installation on TM
I received a reply from the Lowrance website and the tapered nose faces forward on this transducer. The flat end is the back of the transducer. This is the reverse of what is shown on the trolling motor bracket instructions.

Hook 5 Downscan HDI Transducer Installation on TM
I'm installing this transducer on my trolling motor (sorry about the sideways pic, don't know how to rotate it). Does the flat end of the transducer face forward or towards the rear of the trolling motor? The instructions that came with the trolling motor mount shows the flat face of the transducer ...

Re: It is not rumored, it is fact!

Suggestions on upgrading my trolling motor
The old MG 56# 12/24 has seen better days and is 10 years old. Looking to upgrade but don't want to spend a fortune. Its been suggested that I upgrade to the MG Tour Series Digital 82# 24v model but just don't know if I want to spend the $800+. I'm not a tournament fisherman, just fish for fun so I ...
