Rod "stiffness" is sometimes misinterpreted as power. I would rather have an extra fast tip with a bit of action for froggin, sort of "slingshots" fish back towards you when they load against it.

3/4 oz Ganns brown/purple (chrome) with a Yamamoto cin./purple twin tail, Dobyns 784 rod, 14lb sunline fluro....that's about as sure as it gets for deeper water fishing for largemouth, spots and smallies.

Porkchop, I would assume open water for you is ledges, breaklines, creek channels, and some man made brush piles? The 784 would be a great choice, even if your not used to fishing with a longer rod, you will love the comfort and balance of this rod. The extra length will also help with the amount of...

The 784 with a revo is a great combo. I think you'll like the extra line you pick up on the hook set with the longer rod, and personally I like the 4 power rod for deeper jigging. Give the ganns draggin jig a try in 3/4 or 1oz, with a good quality fluro, and you'll feel everything. (if I'm fishing 1...

Jazz, you've got some good advice here, the revo is one of the lightest reels on the market, Dobyns 735 is one of the lightest, best balanced rods on the market, 6:4 reel is adequate, and versatile. Go down to your local dealer, and do a bit of hands on comparison now, and see if you feel the differ...

My favorite is the Dobyns 734, but I have pulled a lot of big fish out of the delta and Clear Lake on the 702. As someone who has to travel a long distance, I am 100% in favor of an off limits period.
