Re: Dobyns guys or staff
You will LOVE that rod for throwing the BBZ. The best way I can describe it is that it will not only make throwing the bait a breeze but it makes it FUN. Something about that rod makes it stand out from all the others, its awesome! You NEED to get one and don't worry, I throw everything from Hudd RO...

I think Rick hit a home run with these! I picked up a few at Guns, Fishing in Vacaville over the weekend and put them into a few different baits as well. SWEET is all I've got to say.

I LOVE the Mag Heavy for the baits mentioned! You'll have no problems with it and yes, I would step up to 30 lb. I fish 30 lb most of the time and have no trouble getting bit.

I do everything I can to let them slurp it before I hit them. Also, I don't hit them 100% because all the stretch isn't there anymore. After that, pull REALLY HARD and let the fight take place inside the boat instead of all around it.

I too learned something from Tom while fishing a Federation event... I've never run across another angler that fishes with as much focus and concentration. I learned a lot from watching that for a day.

Supermat, What do you use the 866 for? Shore fishing? saLTIE- I use the 866 for everything that has treble hooks. Everyone thinks its some giant stick that is only made for HUGE baits but that's just not true. Does it throw the giant baits? ABSOLUTELY! However, its got enough tip flex to keep trebl...

I really like the 734 for the chatterbait. They've got a fairly stout hook so it can be nice to have that extra bit of backbone to get that hook buried.

The handle length isn't a problem for walking a punker as long as you're not too bloated around the waist line.
If you happen to be so endowed then the 806 H is a better fit.

The 806 H is an awesome all around swimbait rod and will definetely throw the hudd! It will also throw the smaller swimbaits with no problems. I own several of the 806's, 807's, and one each of the 795 and 866. The 806H is definetely the most versatile of the bunch.

I tend to agree. I've caught swimbait fish on my 735c when I wanted to lighten up a bit so they've both got the backbone. However, when it comes down to it, if you get a monster in the slop you want every advantage you can get so I too would go with the 736c.

Lobina, The main difference is that the 806 is going to get into the backbone a little bit quicker. If you're in tournaments you want to stick with the 8 footer, otherwise the 866 is a kick! You can't imagine what a difference that 6" will make. The 8 footer is plenty of rod to put fish in the ...

Re: Spook rod
I experimented with a handful of rods and finally settled on the Dobyns 735 for super spooks, river2sea bubble walkers, and some of the other large topwaters. I agree that the 733 is a killer too, I just like the slightly stiffer rod for the stripers and oversize largemouth.
