Night Fishing Trip
It has been pretty dang hot around here lately and one of my favorite ways to beat the heat is to go night fishing. I usually only make it out a time or two each year, but I always enjoy fishing after dark. The quiet of the night, bright moon and hard-hitting bass keep me coming back. I went out Sun...

A Trip to Moses Lake, WA
Last week I made it out to Moses Lake and had a great morning trip. I hadn't been there in almost two years and probably wouldn't have anytime soon if it weren't for a random Facebook message. Mark from and his friend Frank were up from California for a concert and wanted to get out fishing. I was f...

SonarChart Event Before and After Shots
A few weeks ago the Spokane Bass Club held a tournament on the Pend Oreille River in Idaho. The Navionics mapping on the water was not very good and there are not even paper maps available. We saw the need to improve the mapping so seven of the boaters decided to record sonar logs while they were fi...

Frog fishing has always been one of my favorite ways to catch them. Really, who doesn't like a frog? This year though, the frog bite has been excellent throughout my trips in Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho. Silver, Clear, Long, Spirit, and Coeur d'Alene are all lakes that I have had great suc...

Made it out on the water with a buddy yesterday with a few goals; catch some big fish and try out a new reel from Abu Garcia. Thankfully, I was able to do both. We caught fish on all kinds of techniques; Ned Rig, football heads, neko rig, crankbaits, topwaters and I'm sure a few things I forgot abou...

Lake Coeur d'Alene in northern Idaho is one of the best fisheries in the west and every time I go I know that a giant is possible. While that didn't happen yesterday, it was still a good trip with tons of numbers of smallmouth and largemouth. We spent the majority of the day with a frog or swimjig i...

One Good One and a Big One
What do you consider a big fish? I know it depends on where you live and also your skill and experience, but for me, a four-pound smallmouth is a good one and a five plus is a big one. I'd say for largemouth, one over five is a good one and six plus is a big one. I made it out to Long Lake again yes...

After my last trip to Long Lake where largemouth dominated my tournament, I decided to target largemouth for the bigger portion of the day. http://www.thebassbite.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/20180518_074101.jpg It started off rainy and made me think it would be a great day for reaction baits. I made it out to a small local lake the other day and found the bass to be very close to spawning. The typical pairs of fish swimming together and I even caught some in the act. Green or Brown?
Should we fish for largemouth or smallmouth? That is always the question we have to decide when fishing the Long Lake Classic every year. The lake has plenty of both and you can easily catch a five-pounder of each species. Maybe not easily, but it is not uncommon on this lake. This year we decided t...

It appears as though the Inland Northwest has awoken. Everywhere I look on social media I see buddies with pictures of big bass. All of the baits you mentioned that work in Michigan will work here. I've fished both here and in Michigan and you will see some similarities. I would definitely bring some craw colored crankbaits. There are tons of great fisheries in Oregon and Washington. The Columbia is the biggest and most well known. The Hood River area has giants. The Willamette and John Day are also very good. For lakes, I'd look into Henry Hagg or Tenmile for largemouth. Good luck!
