Re: Best lure retriever?
Scott, If you go to Bass Pro Shops, and type in retriever as the key word in the search, it will bring up a page of them. I use two, the EZ Lure retriever, $9.99. The spool for the line is hokey, but the retriever works, especially with the chains. I put the loop part in my vise to close it a little...

Re: How to set the drag ?
Salt water anglers have a drag scale for setting the drag, but I just tighten it until it feels like it will let me set the hook without slipping, and still move when a fish is on, if I need it to. Remember, light wire hooks take less to set, and heavier hooks won't penetrate the fish's mouth if the...

Re: Who fishes tournaments from an aluminum?
I have an '04 Tracker 175, 50hp Merc 4 stroke. I love my boat. I did upgrade to a Motorguide 82 Pro trolling motor, because the boat is a sail in the wind. It rides higher in the bow, and is light. It trailers easily, great gas mileage from the 4 stroke. And it handles rough water (2'+ rollers) just...

Re: Minn Kota Maxxum Pro 101/US & Lowrance Sonar Equi
Marc, I have anX15 on my console, and an X98 on the bow. I have to freeze the chart on my X15 when I'm fishing, or the X98 loses the bottom when I'm in 20+ feet, and then the chart goes goofey. My friend has a 480 on the console, and a 135 on the bow, and doesn't have any interference/cross reading ...

The automatic bilge pump is great, but could be a two edged sword. If you leave the plug out, and it runs all day, and you don't notice, like in bad weather, couldn't it run down your cranking battery? Is there a warning/indicator light that comes on when the bilge pump comes on? That would seem to ...

Leachman,
That just shows how important knowing where to fish is, not just what to use. You can't catch them if they're not there.
Time on the water, and trying different areas and depths.

Cooch, It's the same pattern down here at Castaic, minus the tules. Even though they brought the lake up 15' in three days, it hasn't turned off the typical winter bite. You really need to replace that part as soon as possible. If you can straighten it out with a wrench, that's a good temporary fix until you can replace it. If you heat it with a torch hot enough to make it easy to bend, you will severely weaken the steel. Cold rolled or formed steel loses strength w...

The thing I hate most when I'm trailering is idiot who are in the onramp, merging. Most of the time, they don't even look, or accelerate, and expect me to speed up or slow down to let them in. It's especially gratifying when they're talking on a cellphone while they try to merge. As to tailgaters, I...

The O ring/circle hook approach give almost 100% hookups. Just wait until you feel the fish, then reel set.

Be religious about doing the therapy. Don't adlib. Think of it like the breakin on a new motor. Don't void the warrantee.
Medicine is so much better nowadays, you'll be fine.
Heck of a way, though, to spend time back home with the folks, but it's great they're there for you.

The 7.1/1 ratio is just fine for almost any bait for me. I just reel slower. For cranks and blades, most of the time, I'm reeling just fast enough to feel the wobble or the blades turning. The high speed is great when I'm winding it in fast for another cast. I'm not a big guy, and I've never had a p...

Rip,
Do you think the paint on the jighead plays a big role? I've been fishing the same football head for three weeks. Most of it's brown paint has been rubbed off. The lead that's exposed is kind of rough. I got bit on it Saturday, bare spots and all.
Just looking for your opinion.
