Re: I've run the numbers
My question is, if the FLW is making a $23K profit on a partial field event, not including income from sponsers and others, why would they try to change it? How is a $45K loss for a full field event better than a $23K profit for a partial field? If the smaller field affects how much sponser particip...

Re: Great job to those Icy Castaic Bass Club anglers
Terry,
You missed a COLD day, for sure. But the fish cooperated.
We actually got off the water in time to watch the Chargers game at the pizza place, where we had a party for Jake's 18th birthday.
Let's just say there was enough antifreeze consumed to thaw the lake, for sure.

Ron, do you think the addition of so much cold water is going to kill the shad, or even the bass? Maybe we'll get lucky, and it will only kill the stripers! We fished the fish arm only yesterday, and we had four for 9+lbs. We lost two good keepers. The fish seem to be on a typical winter pattern, an...

Jonathan, If you have any secrets for fishing in freezing conditions, I'd love to hear them. It was so cold at Castaic today, the line froze in my reels. I had to dip my rod in the water to defrost the guides, and bite the ice off my line from the prawl. The ramp was like a skating rink. I was afrai...

If that's what the guys up north face all the time, they're the MAN! Saturday was bad, but today was worse. I had to bite the ice cubes from the prawl off my line so I could cast. At least I was hydrated all day. If that's what it's like to fish in the Northeast during the winter, those folks are in...

Ralph,
I have actually seen them open the west ramp after Labor Day, when the wind direction was bad, and there was a tournament going on, so the lake was open. It can be done, but it involves changing the play at the line of scrimage. Not everyone can do that.

Re: Berthing an Aluminum Boat
If you leave it in the water, you'll wind up with some big hardwater deposits on your hull. They can grow to look like barnacles, and that can't be good.
Check out the hulls of the rental boats, or some of the aluminum boats that have been berthed for a while at local marinas.

Do it on the Castaic Lagoon. Trolling motors only, make it an adult/kid event, and it will fly. Donate the proceeds to charity, with trophys/plaques for the kids.

Maybe the pink/cosmetics wrap is like Mark Grace's slump buster salt block, that he used to set out for the "sweat hogs" he said he'd slam whenever he was in a batting slump.
Either way, big females or hogs, you can't go wrong if you can attract them.

You can use a digital hand held scale if you have it certified, and then use the same weigh-in bag for each load of fish. Our club has done that in a pinch, and, as long as the same scale and bag are used for all, and the bag is emptied of water each time, it's fast and accurate.

Funny you mention line guide friction. For a long time, whenever I put Megastrike on my lures, I wipe the exess off on the line above the lure, and on the line guides, as much as I can, so my hands aren't slimmy. I still use a rag to wipe them, but I always figured the extra scent that might transfe...

When I've tried tieing the San Diego knot with flouro, I always get a buggered end at the knot, no matter how much spit I use, or how slow I draw it up.
Is there a trick to it?

Re: CASTAIC
Ray,
Just a question.
Since there are still fish caught there up to 12lbs+ that I know of, do you think the bigger fish with the "big fish genes" are all gone, or is the forage competition from the stripers too great to allow super size?
