Jeff Bradshaw, have you gone into the "Edit Overlay Data" and deleted the Time, then go back into Edit Overlay Data and reinstall the Time on each screen. Any overlay data that stops showing sometimes needs to be deleted and reinstalled to work.

It is always a good idea to go to a shop who sells the chips and has units on display so you can see what is on the chip and check out your personal fishing areas and see if that is the data you want to see. If it is, buy the chip, if it is not helpful, don't buy the chip.

The HDS units do have very intuitive menus and are very easy to navigate. The customization features on the HDS far surpass those of the cheaper Hook series or the Elite TI series for that matter. You won't be unhappy with the HDS Gen 3.

You will need to do what Marc said and then go to your Pages screen, hit the Edit at the bottom and when you place your choices in a new Page, choose the gauges option. Then you will have a Page that shows all the functions available from the Yamaha interface cable.

I'm not sure where you are at now but the Hook 2 are great units for the money. I have not tried to mount a unit where you need a "gasket" but if you need one that is supplied by Lowrance, any Lowrance dealer can order one for you.

There should be not interference from the big motor. When you mount the transducer, be sure that there are no obstructions on either side of the transducer. For example, if when you trim the big motor all the way down, make sure it does not block any of the view to the side of the ducer.

I believe so. The Elite 5 DSI uses the full size blue cable connection from the DSI transducer. It is always good to go to a Bass Pro or a West Marine store where there is a display and see the units, cables and screens before you purchase so you will be sure to be getting what you expect.

The reason I suggested running new wires is so you will have dedicated power and ground to the units. There would be no other devices using those wires and you would always have plenty of clean power and a dedicated solid ground for you units.

I don't know of Lowrance dealers in the Clear Lake area but surely there must be some there. I have been to C & C Marine in Sacramento and they do good, clean work. They are an authorized Lowrance dealer so they stand behind their work also.

I don't run these units personally so I'm not familiar with the menus on these units. When in a Chart screen, check the menu for "boat Icon" or something similar and hit enter and choose the one that suits your needs.
