I shipped six reels from my local Northern CA post office yesterday at 2:00.

At 6:35 today I received an email from Dan telling me he had finished my reels and they have been shipped back to me.

Without question the Dobyns 867 is the best swimbait rod I have ever used for casting/fishing 8 inch Huds and similar baits. The Okuma Guide Select series (the H or XH will both work) will give you bang-for-your-buck if you're looking for an entry level rod.

Pretty hard to beat a Curado 300...or a 301 in my case. Absolutely love them for throwing swmbaits. I was trying to make a point about retreive speed as I'm hoping the Calcutta D 401 with the 5:1 gears helps me slow down. Guess we'll see in December when the left handers come available.

The 6:2:1 is definitely the slower of the two... As far as the rod goes...if you're looking for a stick to throw small/medium baits on you just can't beat the Dobyns 795...it comes in a couple different styles to accommodate personal preferences regarding handle length. I have three and at least two...

I spend a significant time on the water throwing swimbaits and the single best advice I can give you if you're hunting truly large fish is that it's really easy to fish too fast and in most situations very difficult to to fish too slowly. Mickey's hardbaits are made by the batch and they sell out in minutes once they are released on his site. Typically he has about one release per month, but only a select few get a heads-up on the exact release time. Retailers used to have access to his hardbaits, but not since they became wildly pop...

Castability has to do with the operator, the equipment and what you decide to attach to the rig. I spend 90% of my time throwing swimbaits up to 6 ounces so the equipment was not an issue. I've thrown everything from weedless flukes to 6 inch Huds and BaitSmiths on the Calabama rig so I can tell you...

Absolutely worth the money and fishing them on 80# braid I have yet to lose one. I will say this...when you swing and miss and cause one of those 1.5 ounce pointed weights to come flying back over the boat you're going to want to keep an eye on your partner. I have never had any problems with the 8 inch Huds, but I've had problems with the six inch versions ( top hook, weedless and/or 68's) to the point I will no longer buy them. It isn't hard to find posts like this on virtually any fishing site I frequent. All of the suggestions might fix the problem ...

For me, more wind just means dead-sticking larger floating swimbaits.
