Re: Minn Kota Composite Shaft Removal
Jody, you have to heat the shaft area around the top of the motor (not to hot, or you will melt the composite shaft. Then unscrew the shaft (most of the time the threads on the shaft will be destroyed) any other questions just call me as I do not like to do lots of typing. My phone # 530 246-8051 JL...

Re: DIY shaft replacement on a Minnkota
Hitman, to remove the shaft from the motor, you need to heat the area where the shaft goes into the motor (it is glued in with loctite) be careful not to get it to hot because you can melt the composite shaft and melt the threads inside the housing. You will need a pipe wrench or a special clamp to ...

The trolling motor you have has electric steering, the system you are describing sounds like you have a bad foot pedal. You can get one at any Minn Kota service center.

This should take care of your problem. If this does not work, call me #530-246-8051 I can ask more questi...

After you dry the switch or replace it, then when you go out to fish, and it starts to rain, put a plastic bag or shower cap over the foot pedal, this will prevent water getting into the switch.

Photon How old is your motor? If it is more then 3 yrs old, the lower shaft bearing may have too much play and you have to change the bearing race and cone, on the newer motors, they change the bearing so this will not happen.. If the clunking is coming from the bracket, you can spray some WD-40 whi...

Randy said it right. Loosen the mount screws and if the bracket rocks, you have to shim it with washers, then tighten it back down. or you can take a dremal tool and grind the slot a little larger. I prefer to aligh the mount.

Minn Kota makes a 72 inch shaft on the Maxxum 101, or you can put it on other models, also the power drive models have 70 inch shafts. They are a little harder to raise and to put down.
