Just installed HDS10 on my dash. moved the HDS5 to the bow. already have the LSS1. do i need the nmea back bone as well to share info with both of these units? and when working together, are they still reading from both transducers, or just one?thanks, Kevin McClain.
ALSO WHENS THE NEXT LOWRANCE CLASS AROUND SACRAMENTO! MIGHT NEED IT NOW LOL

Re: setup ?
The NMEA backbone will allow you to share GPS information between the two units. To share sonar information you will need to run an ethernet cable between the two units. These are two completely different networks that transfer different information, don't confuse the two.
As for which unit is using which transducer, you can go into the menu and select from the device list which transducer you want each unit to use. You can change back and forth between different transducers on the water at any time.
You will just have to watch to see when the next seminar might be. I don't know of any at this time.

Re: setup ?
As Ken said, adding a second ethernet cable will allow you to share transducers with both HDS units. This will allow you to eliminate crosstalk; or choose which transducer to show on any one or all of your HDS units.
But completing your ethernet network by simply adding the second cable to your HDS-5 will make sharing waypoints even easier and better than the NMEA 2000 network can. Once you have both connected to your StructureScan (LSS-1) you will not only be able to instantly share waypoints, waypoint symbols and names, etc. but you will also be able to sychronize all your waypoints.
This is one of the best features in that if you wanted to use only one HDS unit to save your waypoints, but then want the waypoints added to a second HDS, all you have to do is put both HDS units on your ethernetwork, turn them both on, and they instantly share all the waypoints between both units! No buttons to push, it is all done automatically.
The ethernet cable also lets you synchronize backlighting between both units as well.
Hope this helps.
