Thanks Tony

Post by Ken Sauret »

First I would like to thank Tony for making it easier to find answers to questions about Lowrance Electronics.

My name is Ken Sauret. I live in Paso Robles, California. I am on the Lowrance Pro Staff and will be getting on here most every day to answer any questions you may have concerning Lowrance legacy products, HDS units, Structure Scan or the new Elite DSI. Anything from menu settings, overlay data to NMEA backbone wiring to GPS questions to managing waypoints or trails.

If I don't know the answer, I know people at Lowrance that do. I will research and get back on here so everyone can benefit and learn. Don't be afraid to ask questions. If you wonder about something I know you aren't the only one who wants to know the same thing.

Thanks again for this opportunity to help all of you learn a little more about those mini computers you have on your boats. The more you know the more enjoyment you will get from using them and you'll probably catch more fish too!

Ken,

I will start off by saying hello and I wish I could make it Thursday to C&C Marine but I will be in Menlo Park on business and will have to miss out.

Why do my brand new HDS5 's not compute daylight savings time? with all the new technology this seems odd.

Also my rear unit looses it's contact and depth reader at speeds of 40 - 52 mph. What could cause this?

Thanks,
Four Decades of Red!!!!!!!!

First off here is how to set the time on the HDS units. This will be helpful if you go to Arizona and change time zones too.

To change the time on the new Lowrance HDS units hit menu twice. Use the arrow keys to go up to System and hit enter. Now arrow down to Time and hit enter. Use the arrow keys to change the time. Remember to hit Save and you are done.

As for the transducer not reading the bottom at higher speeds, this will depend on the surface condition. If you get air bubbles beneath the boat you will loose the bottom. Sometimes you will get readings when at other times you won't.
