CLEAN That Cork !!

Post by Mitch »

After over 40yrs of Bass fishing and trying all kinds of ways to clean the cork on rods, I've tried Special Cleaners, both homemade and store bought, I have found and stayed with this one now for over 25yrs. I've seen so many rods advertized for sale that look pretty shabby because of the cork, and have had many other anglers who have fished with me whose rods look like they're 50yrs old !! This system is so easy and inexpensive it's unbelievable !! AND it won't hurt the cork and requires no treatment after cleaning. I've seen some that recommend a Lanolin or something similar be added afterward. This would make the handle 'Slick" and also attract dirt !

So, all you need is a few paper towels ( folded ), and some Isopropyl Alcohol.

Now pour some Alcohol onto the folded paper towel, then wrap it around the cork and twist back and forth and up and down a few times with a lite pressure. You DON"T have to scrub it, the alcohol will remove the dirt. If the cork is exceptionally dirty you may have to do this 2-3 times.

Now, just let it dry for a few minutes and you're done !!

Windex on a small terricloth towel, also works great. Got that idea from Angel Valdez.

I use the Lysol or Clorox Disinfecting Wipes and they do a great job too.

Use liquid hand soap with warm water and a sponge.
