ABA DVL Recap

Post by rickyshabazz »

Had a chance to fish the ABA on DVL on Saturday. We had 24 boats and were met with some light winds and sunny skies. Team Bling was very excited because we found 15-20 sight fish and we thought that we had a shot to do well in the event. We hit our first 2-3 spots in the morning with nothing waiting for the sun to get up. We caught our first small keeper on a Senko but between 7-11 we only had one small fish. The light turned on about 11 am when the sun got high enough to start sight fishing. We put three sight fish in the boat one of which was our largest at 6.6.

The wind picked up by noon and our instincts told us to check two spots that we normally do well just fishing, so off we went. The first spot produced a 4 pounder on the first cast with a nail rig. The second spot produced what would be the winning fish. We caught one over 4 on a nail rig and another over 4 on a drop shot just fishing. In the same cove where we did not see a single sight fish the day before we happened upon a point that was loaded with fish coming and going. It was a secondary staging spot we found on the Navionics Map. We culled 4-5 times off this point and caught what would be a 23 almost 24 pound limit off of a spot that the day before we didn't see a single fish.

The overall message is to trust your instincts and fish the moment. You can't sight fish in the wind and you have to adapt the conditions. This sport is about ups and downs. My partner blanked last week on DVL and the following week we win by over 3 pounds.

We caught the sight fish on a white Texas rigged craw bait and the nail rig fish on a plastic worm.

I love this game!
