Clear Lake Question

Post by birdi23nls »

Got a question for you guys about clear lake.

quick background, only fished there once during the summer years ago. I'm going up there for 3 days. 17th, 18th, and 19th. It's suppose to be raining/showers off and on during that time and the weather is in the low 60's

How much trouble am I in? Is the fishing going to be decent or tuff? I know you can't predict what the bass are going to do exactly, but in general, what should I gear up for mentally. ;
Thanks for any help

The lake is loaded with baitfish (shad) right now so the bite can be tough. Move around & throw different baits. There was a good smallmouth bite at Mendocino last week. Hopefully by the time you get up there, things will have changed from last week.

You shouldn't have a problem getting bit even if the weather is rainy and cooler. Lipless cranks, chatterbait, 6" swimbaits, jerkbaits, senkos, A rig, crankbait and drop shot will all get bit pretty well right now.

You are going to have company as the Wild West Bass Trail official practice start on the 19th. So 100 plus boat will be going you on that day and beyond.

Also a 2 club Belly boat tournament out of the oaks that weekend.
A couple of warm days and bed fish will be everywhere.
