New Melones 9.3-Pound Largemouth

What a great weekend we had on New Melones. The lake is at a great level and the bass are responding well to it. On Friday I had the pleasure of guiding my good friend Nate Monroe. Nate and I have been in search of a giant for the past two years. We have had multiple chances but something would always go wrong, until today. We started the day throwing topwater lures knowing that it should be go time. We found an area where the bass were pushing shad to the surface. We would cast at busting fish and they would come over and grab our lures. We had some explosive blow-ups and landed largemouth and spotted bass up to four pounds. We fished throughout the morning and continued to catch plenty of fish. At 11:00 am we pulled up on a spot and the conditions were perfect. As I was explaining how perfect the wind, light, clarity, depth etc... was she hit! Nate swung and the fight was on. The fish flew out of the water and wallowed on the surface multiple times throughout the fight and then we got her to the net. We kept the fish in the well, not to stress her while we celebrated and regained our composure. This massive fish weighed 9.3-pounds and is Nate's new personal best. We released her and went back to fishing, epic day!
