Veterans and “Young Guns” vow not to let glory slip away - again

Post by AnglersPress »

Not only are the air and water temperatures steadily rising on Folsom Lake as we approach this weekend’s 2nd annual Bass Pro Shops Open, but also heating up, are unspoken rivalries that lie between veteran - and "young gun" anglers.

Last year’s event saw a thrilling final day finish, as two veteran teams traded blows to make it to the final day in which only top 10 ten teams out of 72, participated in an exciting drive-by weigh-in in front of the Bass Pro Shops Rocklin store.

And despite a valiant effort, perennial favorites Corey Fenske and Marcel Colin came up short, conceding the victory and the first-ever Bass Pro Shop Open crown to the other odds-on favorite team of Preston “Big Country” Henson and James “Ninja” Matsuko.

But both Corey and Marcel vow that they won’t let this happen in this year’s competition as the current warming trend will play right into their style of fishing.

“We’ve been fishing this lake for years, and know EXACTLY where these fish go when warming trends like this are in play”, noted Corey, owner of Sticky Graphics. We lost last year’s event by a very narrow margin, and believe me, Marcel and I won’t let victory slip away again”.

But hold on...there’s a new train coming, and it’s loaded with a horde of ultra-aggressive “young gun” competitors such as Josh Parris, Arlondo Abella, and Kirby Wallace (all under 25), just “waiting in the cuts” to knock out the old guard, bring some new blood to the winner’s circle, and blow up it up on social media.

“They had their day, and get mad respect, noted both Josh, Arlondo and Kirby, but it’s simply time for them to move on. We may not have years of experience on the lake, but were not afraid to try new techniques and fish hard from start to finish”.

Josh Parris, the 2016 Coors Light Future Pro Tour Angler of the year that nearly won the Coors Light FPT Classic event in March on Folsom Lake with partner Nick Lynch, was recently pre-fishing the lake, and found loads of fish that would be a winning bag on any northern California lake (see video below), and is confident that his patterns will hold up come game time.

Stay tuned… the crew from the award-winning Good Day Sacramento TV show will feature live remotes at the event’s Friday morning’s blast-off, and will be doing a highlight segment on the final day at Sunday’s Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World Expo, which goes from 11-4pm and features:
