I just got a private email calling me an Arrogant old ####

Post by Jim Conlow Sr. »

I was also told that the person who wrote the emai is not the only one who feels that way.

So this is my answer and a thank you to those who think that about me, which of course is your God given right.

At an early age I had to choose between honest arrogance and hypocritical humility. In my family it was considered less than manly to not be arrogant. All of my heros as I grew up were arrogant old ####'s General Patton, General MacArthur Winston Churchill, Charles DeGual, to just name a few. I want to thank the gentlemen who recognize this trait in me and let them know that my ancesters would be proud of me and that I will continue to strive to maintain my arrogant standing

JIm - I would not call you an Arrogant old SOB........just an OPINIATED Old SOB....

And that is not a knock. We need more people who have values (no matter who agrees with them) and stand up for them.

I don't agree with you all the time but I respect the way in which you present your message. Straightforward, no BS and to the point.

Now, if we could get you to post more than single replies to posts we would be doing good!!

Jim, at our age I think we have a right to be arrogant, opinionated or whatever. It comes with the territory. If others can't handle it, that is a sign of youth. Once they get some years on they will come to find out what it's all about. I really appreciate your posts. You bring a lot of experience, knowledge and wisdom to this forum. Please continue. Being an old fart ain't such a bad thing.

Jim, in my opinion, you are a fool and there is nothing good about being arrogant.

I know the entire story you are referring to. Nice job at leaving the truth out of it to try to get sympathy and attention from the forum.

The person who wrote that PM to you was simply trying to get you to stop posting multiple single line posts in a row. It is bad etiquette and considered to be as rude as typing in all caps.

According to this person who PM'd you, your reply was to tell him to stop reading your post if he didn't like them. And he called you arrogant for “assuming he wanted to read any of the babble you continually spew out in channelâ€

You know nipples what this forum is, is a conversation

Post by Jim Conlow Sr. »

In a conversation you say something and then others in the conversation say something if they feel that they have something to add. Thats what this thing is all about. People usually are polite to one another in a conversation. I have not been the one to cause the deterioration of politeness on here. I have never stooped to calling someone a fool or any of the other derogatory terms that you and others feel that you have the right to use. You want to be able to throw out indults and think that others should just roll over and play dead.
I used the term arrogance because that what you buddy called me when he sent his PM
He intended it as an insult just as you intended the word "fool" as an insult.
So let me ask you if I were to insult you would you just roll over and play dead?
In the meantime why dont you find some posting where I have been arrogant

We have a tools of modern technology to skip and click on mouse.
That is faster and less stress to read many posts.

Sometimes I confused being in old Russia when I was reading some post. But still now OK. Since US accept many Russians here, it's a good study to know how they are.

Conversation yes contraversy no.I am going over to LBC this afternoon the bite has been really good over there.I have never seen so many double digit fish swimming around in my life.Problem is I CANT CATCH ONE.

I was on vacation about three week's ago and there were a couple of wrapped boat's there from Florida.I guess they were waiting to fish the Delta becouse they asked me if there was anyplace else within an hour's drive they could go to.Well i said why are you not up on the Delta and they said it was off limit's.

I was there on Tuesday and saw them then went back on Friday and they were still there.I talked to them again and they were so impressed with that place they said this is better than Florida what a special place it was.

Maybe it was there southern hospitality but what a couple nice guy's,get my point.

Mac,

I think I better clarify the statement I made earlier. I’ll start with the definition of Arrogant…

ar•ro•gant [ar-uh-guhnt] –adjective 1. making claims or pretensions to superior importance or rights; overbearingly assuming; insolently proud: an arrogant public official.

What makes Jim a fool (in my opinion), is that he thinks arrogance is a good characteristic to have. Arrogance is not a quality like modesty, or kindness, or patience. Arrogance is a weakness, and in my opinion, one of the worst to have. And to be proud of it…. Well that just reeks of foolishness in my book. One of the things I hate about Iaconelli is his arrogance. One of the things I love about KVD (and the majority of other Pros like him) is modesty. I feel that Ike is a horrible role model for kids and that KVD is a great role model. Cooch has a ton of modesty and I think he is an incredible role model and an incredible teacher.

A post like this one really chaps my hide. I see Jim looking for affirmation that arrogance is good and that he should continue being arrogant. And I think most people who responded missed the boat entirely when they read it. No one ever called Jim’s posts arrogant. He was called arrogant for his response to the author telling the author to stop reading his posts if he didn’t like them. Jim wasn’t being asked to stop posting, he was being asked to stop the multi posting and combine all the separate thoughts into one single thread. Assuming that everyone (including the author of that PM) wanted to read his posts was a part of it as well.

Perhaps we should start a poll…

Who thinks the following traits are good ? “making claims or pretensions to superior importance or rights; being overbearingly assuming; being insolently proudâ€

Is it too much to ask to just let guys use the forum in whatever manner they understand how to get it done. I've seen guys get ripped for their grammar, their spelling, the use of all caps and a lot of other assorted stuff when if fact we're just happy to see folks using the forums and we try not to get critical of the 'how' until it breaks one of our few forum policies.

It's all good and I encourage Jim to go using the forums the way he understands it and not to let this sort of stuff push you away. And I truly believe that Jim isn't looking for affirmation of anything as his ego doesn't require that at all.

To all, use the forum how you know best and type as you want and the rest of us will figure it out as we go. It's all good to my mind.

Nipples,

I guess you have never met a Marine. From the day that I entered boot camp In San Diego, I was taught that there is no other military organization in the entire world that is on par with the USMC. I know as a Marine Sargeant, I have to be the most arrogant SOB because if I don't believe that I am the best in the world my junior Marines won't believe it and they won't learn to live.

I personally enjoy Mr. Conlow's posts and I look forward to seeing them. If you and your friend don't like them, skip them and go on to the next. As you say, since they are usually only one line you won't be missing much and the rest of us can enjoy the forum the way it is.

Besides, he has earned the right to be arrogant.

BOGUS! I just figured it out Jim!

Post by NaCl »

This whole thread is BOGUS! That's right! You are smarter than all the rest of us. You knew that if you posted anything even remotely controverial on this forum, it woud attract a firestorm of responses...most of which would require a response from you.

DUH! You fished. We bit!

There's an old adage in politics that "All news is good news." Why? Because even bad news keeps your name in the public eye. In fact, bad news usually requires a reply thereby increasing your public exposure many times over. Ultimately, people don't remember the issues, they just remember the sound bites.

Now, I figured you out you old fart! Do you know how many times I have read "Ride with a Legend" in this thread? A bunch! They owe you a big bonus dude! You're a genius! LOL!

The US Marine Corps is the greatest fighting force that the world has ever seen or will ever see. As you have stated one of the basic tenants of their training is to believe themselves to be invincable. Without that arrogant feeling of invincablity you have fear and fear will get you killed quicker than any other aspect of a firefight.

Leatherneck,

Funny... I come from a very long line of Marines. In fact, I have my grandfathers Navy Cross framed and hanging on my living room wall. He formed and led the Marine's first paratrooper squad right there in San Diego. He gave his life in Iwo Jima. I have a ton or relatives who are all proud Marines. But I would never call a single one of them arrogant. They are all proud of their accomplishments, and they are all tough as nails, but they have all learned the value of modesty and not making assumptions. I don't recall a single time when anyone of them was pretentious or donned the air of superior importance or were overly proud.

While the marines are "the few and the proud", that does not make them “the arrogantâ€

Nipples,

I don't mean to be disrespectful in any way to you or your Marine acquaintances, but there is a major difference in "coming from a long line" of Marines and actually being one. You have to walk in those shoes to understand. Before I sound like a hypocrit, I admit I'm obviously not a Marine. However, being in the military and workin with the other services gives a great inside perspective. There is a fine line here that some people don't understand and often confuse...that line is the difference between confidence and arrogance. People show confidence in different ways. Some people have a quiet, calm confidence while others exude their confidence for everyone to see. The people with a "visible" confidence are often times judged as arrogant by uptight people who are not comfortable enough with themselves to not be threatened by the other person's confidnence. Then again, there are some plain 'ol arrogant bassturds out there too!! Some people figure that out and some don't. Just my .02

As for the rest of it...are you guys seriously that uptight that you really give a **** how someone writes their posts?!?!? I envy your simple, stress free lives if you find it necessary to complain about how Mr Conlow makes his posts in a forum. Grow up! I don't remember seeing anywhere, a list of etiquette rules when it comes to using a forum. Put it in black and white before you bitch and complain about how someone else uses the internet. Yes, Gator has a sticky with "rules" but I don't believe these issues are covered. Just be happy that a man of 73 years is "cool" enough to know how to use the internet in the first place!!!!!!!!
