Love my new personal plates :-)

Post by Fish Chris »

Felt really lucky to get this one, as there is actually a ska group with the name of "Reel Big Fish" (you would think that if one of the band members didn't already have this, one of their fans would), although they might not be together anymore. In fact, a year ago this plate was not available, as I checked when I was looking for plates for my boat trailer.... But I guess it became available just in time for my new car :-)

Image

Oh, the "FISH ON" decal, and the Trophy Bass Only / Trophy Sportfish decals are all custom. Sorry, none for sale. The Al Agnew jumping bass decal is available though...... and I think it looks "awesome" ! ....Waaaay better than the old cheesy, white bordered, 2D looking ones, from way back in the day.....

Peace,
Fish

PS, In case you didn't think of this, the "RL" can be read as both "Real" or "Reel" :-)

You should just get your whole car wrapped in a bass scale pattern. :D

Hey Joe, I think I'm okay with the metallic orange :-) ..... although it's getting so darn popular, it will be played out in a year ! :-(

Speaking of "wraps" though, I have been seriously contemplating getting my my tow vehicle (an old, worn out Toyota) wrapped in Mossy Oak shadow grass, to match my Mossy Oak Shadow Grass boat :-)

Yes Steve, I mentioned that, but you must have missed it.... Are they still together ? I used to have a co-worker who was a fan....

I have been considering wrapping my old worn out bass boat in camo as well, and if it looks good doing my Subaru Wagon. Camoclad web site has a video of how to do it your self and it looks fairly easy, and the end product looks sharp.

Check out this boat:

Of course they make it sound easy.... That's their business ! But I dunno'...... I'm certainly not trying to be lazy (okay... maybe just a little :-)) it's just that I don't trust myself to make it come out right. Even if it came out okay, I don't see how I (or anyone who has never done such a job) could make it come out like the pro's that do this for a living do....

Then, their are some other things which I'm not sure if you have considered...

To make the job look good, I (and maybe you);

*would have to find some kind of etching chemical / acid, that would allow me to paint my chrome bumpers, some sort of matching matte green.

*would have to paint my "white" door jams, the same matte green (at least my interior is tan)

*would have to get some decent aluminum rims (stock Toyota mags would probably be pretty cheap and easy on E-bay) then etch and paint those the same matte green.

So, I'm thinking about quite a bit of work, "even if" I had somebody install the camo wrap itself, for me....

However, since I have this serious thing for camo, I think it would be really freaking cooool ! :-)

Peace,
Fish

PS, My luck, I'd finally get it all done, and the motor would blow up the next day ! Doh ! (although I'm already thinking replacement motor, before a new truck , anyway.....

Always one who has to rain down on the parade....I think its cool Chris no matter what lame bruizer has to say about it. Always a hater somewhere. Maybe he can only muster up dinks? Maybe he should get (DNKONLY) on his plates. Anyway the band Reel Big Fish is still together and touring. They were recently in the area and still have a decent "cult" fan base.

It's all good bruizer. Your right about opinions. And it's my opinion (also), that your opinion makes you look like a hater. But believe me, at this stage of the game, I'm quite used to a few of you popping out at every turn.

It's just like a while ago when I posted a shot of a beautiful 12 lb'er from Berryessa, and had 1 guy (a regular on this forum who posted under a false name) come on slamming me about holding it out towards the camera :-) Well hell yea' I was ! Just trying to make a 12 lb'er look, the way a 12 lb'er looks when I'm actually holding it..... which is the way I like to see them.
But anyway, most of the guys that saw that photo, thought it was a good shot, of a beautiful fish.

Anyway, their is a truck in Fairfield with all kinds of duck hunting stickers all over it, and the license plate says something about duck hunting (sorry, I don't recall the exact plate). Now, I've never hunted a day in my life, however, whenever I see that truck I think to myself, "Now that's cool ! That guy is obviously as passionate about hunting, as I am about fishing ! Hat's off to that guy ! I don't care what a person is passionate about, as long as they are passionate about something. Anything ! This is what takes life to the next level" ! :-)

But again, this is just MPO.

I only said "I think it looks tacky" all the decals and the plate.
For my taste the plate say's it all. But with all the stickers, it's just ice cream truck'ish to me. It's your car, you have a need to tell the world what your about. this is my passsion, yadda yadda.
Have fun, get off on it all ya want.

I didn't say a dang thing about your passion's or anything else for that matter. Let it go.......
like catching big fish isn't fun ?

Hey JT-D, I got that one, and hundreds of others from Clear Lk. during that outrageous Catfish bite in the Winter of 01-02. That one weighed 23 lb and change. I swear I've caught 8 Carp from 23.0 to 23.8, but can't seem to get a REAL monster :-( Id love to get a 40 plus... But I'd settle for a 30 right now :-)

Sometimes we would get into a streak where we would start getting nothing but big Carp..... then, out of the blue, it would swing back to all Catfish. Released them all either way. To be honest, the Cats fought hard, but once you got them to the boat, they were through.... While we might get the Carp to the boat 6 times, only to have them rip off 50 feet of drag from our micro-lights :-) Of course the only reason we wanted to land them ASAP, was so we could hook another (hopefully bigger) one :-)

Anyway, big Bass are great, but if it will bite my hook, and rip drag, I'm down with it, regardless of the species :-) Sometimes people see the title of my website, TrophyBassOnly.com, and assume that that's all I fish for, or care about. They just haven't looked at my other site, TrophySportfish.com :-)

What do you guys use for bait, or do you get them on artificials?
Every carp I've had on (none boated) has been snagged with a crank while fishing for bass, by accident.
But Castaic has some huge carp, and I'd love to get into one of those freight trains on purpose.

chum em with dog food, corn mixxed with grape koolaid, bread, cereal...dog food brings em in, then they sip the floaters off the top....so yes bait...nothing special or tactical.

That sounds awesome ! I'd love to stick some of those giants ! Are there a lot of weeds in that area ? (makes light gear fishing tough, if not impossible)

BTW Bruizer, I get the feeling that you might not have been really trying to rip me too much, but just honestly voicing a personal opinion (and maybe just not caring much what I thought, one way or the other :-)

I was actually on another site, where a guy posted about my plates, and he started out with, "Please don't this as a personal slam....." then went on to talk about a friend he has that doesn't even fish pro, but covers his shirts with all these patches, and his vehicles with all these stickers, and how he thought it looked silly.
Interestingly, I don't care for the all the shirt patches either...... and although I feel kind of obligated to have decals for my sponsors on my truck, I think it would really look best if the whole thing was just covered in Mossy Oak Shadow grass, with maybe the whole rear window "Al Agnew Jumping Bass shade"..... Okay, maybe a small TBO.com and TS.com sticker, on the bottom left and right.

With my little car though, obviously I'm not trying to "hide" in it... or I wouldn't have gotten bright orange metallic and after market tires and rims :-)

But it's all good Bruizer. I NEVER hold grudges, and hope you won't have any permanent, negative opinions about me either.

Great fishing to you,

Hey Mark, corn, sweet peas, and dough baits of all types work good. And keep in mind, Carp have a big time sweet tooth ! Soak your corn or peas in sugar overnight. Add sugar or Jello mix to your dough baits.

And Carp are very sensitive to big hooks and heavy line. Micro light gear is by far your best bet, as long as they can't get you into any kind of cover, and make sure your reel can hold a couple hundred yards of 4 lb mono.... Or, I use micro braid 2/10, with a 6 lb mono leader, and a sliding sinker (1/8 oz) with a size 4 or 6 hook.
