Which is better-CL or the Delta?
Which is better-CL or the Delta?
The Delta is hands down my favorite place in the world to fish.
With that said Clear Lake has really come on over the last -3 years.
Which is better? Right now Clear Lake seems to get the nod. However, I will say that is appears to be easier to catch a 10-12 pounder on the Delta and a boat load of 5-6 pounders on CL.

Don't be lame. It's just fishing; you are not the new mesiah you know! Check your attitude at the door Mr. Spinners on da boat trailer.
Re: Which is better-CL or the Delta?
I've said fer years that ClearLake has probably the largest population of 4-9 pounders on the planet. Yet the Delta has just as many fish in that 7-13 pound range. The sheer number of guys who catch DD fish here is matched by NO other bass lake. Between tournamnets, and guiding the past four weeks, there have been 15 ten pounders make it into my boat alone. The number of giant runners who got away, very well could have doubled that. Nod Delta, the January - February bite here proves it every single year to me.
I think all those BASS & FLW polls are askew, since they really only consider what happens when they have tournaments on the ponds they fish. If the Elite or FLW had a tournament here over the past three weeks, the flippers and pitchers would CRUSH Kennedy's record at Clearlake! There's NO WAY, they can make a real assesment of these two ponds and how they fish on a year round basis. They are both amazing fisheries, FAR better than anything Mexico, Texas and Florida have ta offer with out a shadow of a doubt.

Funny, it is almost the same as when I asked my Grandmother who was her favorite grandchild..She responded without even thinging about it, it is the one on her lap at the moment..The two named fisheries are the same to me, it depends on which one I am on at the time.."EVEN IF I DO NOT CATCH A SINGLE FISH"

No where in the country can a more meaningless poll be given :):)
We are indeed blessed to have two outstanding fisheries like these !!

Its not meaningless, its just fun, just plain old fun!!!
I fish Clear Lake 2-4 days a month, I keep my Ranger there. From reading the reports and seeing the photo's from fish caught at Clear Lake and the Delta, I would say these are the best when it comes to consistant fish over 4 lbs, I would say that the time of the year and time of the month have a lot to do with which Lake/River is the best, in the last 3 years I would read post on the Delta and they would be loading the boats with 7-12 lb toads and Clear Lake would be just "OK" and than the next month they would switch, Clear Lake would be smoken and the Delta would be "OK". The only way to really find out would be to do an electro shock and bring them all to the top and weigh and count them, now that's funny I don't care who you are:) Both of these places are awesome, I am so glad that I live close enough to fish both. Right now the Delta is kickin out toads but watch what happens to Clear Lake next month, I will be there for 5 days next month but the first 2 days I will only have 3 rigs on the deck, rip bait, swim bait and jig. Here toady toady. Man I love this sport!!!

Re: Which is better-CL or the Delta?
Agreed that they can both be the best on the planet at any given time. I grew up on the Delta, now live on Clear Lake. I have to say, Clear Lake has been much easier to learn, but I can get on em easier due to what I may have learned in the Delta.
As far as toads go, I don't really understand it. I've only caught one DD on the Delta and it was on a bed. Just last year alone at Clear Lake, I caught a 12-2, a 12-5, and a 14-2 within two months and several other DD's and countless in the past five years. And yes, one of the fish was on a bed, unfortunately prefishing the day before a tourney (should've removed the hook), but one of the 12's and the 14 were caught in 20 feet of water.
I say it is easier for the average joe to catch good fish on Clear Lake, or maybe it's just that I never really got good in the Delta. I don't really have the time, but if you took a look at the average weights from March through November, I'm pretty sure Clear Lake would shatter the Delta in terms of winning weight and definately overall weight per angler/team. When the water is cold at Clear Lake, I'm sure the Delta's weights shatter C.L.
The bottom line is that they BOTH are great fisheries and no I didn't vote. We are able to catch fish using just about every technique in the books on each body of water and you can't say that about many lakes. Both can be challenging, but that IS what makes fishing so fun. Clear Lake has been challenging since December and usually is for me, but this week has started to be very rewarding. I don't think I mentioned above, but I saw a guy with two fish over ten this morning, but he was fishing minners.
Good luck on both ponds fellas

Re: Which is better-CL or the Delta?
I cant place this vote either, both fisheries are incredable for different reasons. I will say that I believe the angler that figures out the Delta is a cut above the rest in terms of understanding fisheries, and NO i do not put myself in this league. The Delta is far more challenging to me then any other fishery. However, it also gives me the biggest grins when I get into those better then average fish.
I really enjoy both of these fisheries equally and Love the fact that we can have this type of debate here in NorCal. I just hope that we can muster together as sportsman to keep these fisheries!

Re: Which is better-CL or the Delta?
First – I like Clear Lake it is one awesome fishery! But the Delta is a fishery that not only offers quality Bass but also offers a challenge to every leave of angler. It offers river conditions as well as lake type fishing, it presents lagoons and swamps situation, it has tulles and rocks walls, and the water can run for Gen Clear to Hot Chocolate. You can fish docks, points, stick ups and humps. You can go to places where there is no one else and they can pass you and know that you are not there. I believe that the Delta can develop a more rounded angler that can go to any other fishery and relate back to the Delta and fish that water as if he was fishing it all of his life. I believe the Delta is one of the best training/learning fisheries in the world.
