Lost or stolen License Plate

Post by KDA »

Just discovered my boat trailer license plate is gone. The rubber mount was broken. Not sure if it was stolen or just broke off. Anyone have this problem and what is required to get a replacement plate?
Thanks

Lost one, after a long time, in and out of water, etc. Go to DMV, for nominal fee they will replace the plate. Bill K :)

Mine fell off a few years ago.
At that time, I think it cost $50, and was no hastle at the DMV.
Just bring your trailer registration with you, and maybe proof of insurance. I don't remember exactly.

Hey KDA,

This happened to me also. I was leaving camanche one day and I noticed that my plate was missing. I think it was stolen because even the frame was gone. But it was easy to get a replacement. All you had to do was go to DMV with your registration and fill out the paperwork for a lost plate (tell them it was lost otherwise you will might have to get a police report if you tell them it was stolen). It only cost me $7.00 for a replacement plate.

Just call your local police or sheriff and they will come take a 5 minute report. Then go to DMV and get a replacement plate. It's no big deal. You want the police report taken just in case it was stolen. The plate could end up on a stolen trailer so they need to enter it as "Lost or stolen" in the data base.

That happened to me several years ago. Since that time, I just leave my license plate in a lockable storage in my boat. I have never been pulled over for not having a license plate displayed. I was pulled over once for something else and the officer didn't say I had to re-attach the plate.

you can get a new plate at "aaa" if you have them, muchbetter than sitting in the dmv line for 2 hours... just bring your trailer reg.
