Monraz in final C.O. Pro-Teen, grabs Victory!

Post by Cooch »

19 Year old Anthony Monraz of Healdsburg, Ca., fishing in his final C.O. Pro-Teen Classic with first time Pro Martino Adra, pulled all the right moves in capturing this year's Pro-Teen championship crown on the California Delta. Working the early low tides just outside of Frank's, they put a limit in the boat fishing a variety of baits in stained water right off the bat in the morning. The pair then made a tactical switch and moved further west to catch some higher tides and culled their early morning limit out, punching a variety of canopies with Beaver style baits. Anthony and his pro weighed a solid bag of chunks anchored by only the 9th largest fish of the day. A testament to how good that punch bite can be for a tournament angler here, Anthony and Martino caught better fish making the switch than the rest of the field who caught tons of fish on dropshots, Senkos, cranks and the few big frog & jig fish. For his efforts Anthony took home a brand new Dobyns/Revo baitcasting combo, a Dobyns/Revo spinning combo, a $400 stuffed tackle Pack and a comemorative C.O. Pro-Teen plaque donated by 49'r Propane.

Teen big Fish honors went to young 13 year old Jed Wood of Lafayette, California, fishing his very first C.O.Pro-teen with pro boater Adam Kern. With that kicker 7.54 fish, Jed also finished in 8th place. Big fish of the tournament was caught by Pro Morgan Proescher at 7.60, That fish anchored he and his teen, young 14 year old Kevin Travel's bag good enough for a 9th place finish. Both boaters, Morgan & Adam, are past teen participants in this event. This year, we had an amazing number of previous Pro-Teen participants, who are now on the pointed side of the boat that came out to help us git thes kids introduced to tournament bass fishing. In fact, four of the top ten finishing teens, fished with a pro boater that started here in this event, Sean Alarid, John Clark, Adam Kern and Morgan all put their teens on a top ten fishing day. Not ta leave out, previous winner Jonathan Bradford, Austin Smaltz and Alex Sanchez also showed up as previous teens now fishing the pro side, not only here in this event but many others through out the state. This is just a small testament to how well, what we do with this event, the impact we are having on young teenage anglers here in California.

I just wanna say thank you and great job to all those who made this year's Pro-Teen a special event for those who showed up. First and foremost, to our boaters, you guys rock! I am so proud of these 62 guys who showed up to take out this year's 70 teens. This was by far the most teens we've had to double up with a pro. Many thanks to ALL you guys that offered to take a 2nd kid out and not leave a single kid on the dock. Take a long hard look at this year's list of boaters, these are the true pros and heart and soul of bass fishermen in California! These guys care about the future of our sport, and go out of their way, year after year to make it possible and introduce these kids to bass fishing!

Filling out our sponsorship help for this year was Mel Cotton's of San Jose, Russo's Marina, Vince Harris & The Future Pro Tour, the Delta Bass Club, Harvest Park Bowl of Brentwood, Scott Dipman, Tom Wardrop, the 5 Gomez brothers AKA "The Bait Barn crew". Jodi Only , Wayne Walsuko and Westernbass for their coverage and support. An last but not least, I wanna send out a special thanks to the one and only, godfather of Flippen and my mentor, Brentwood's Hall of Fame fisherman, Dee Thomas. You coming out ta watch "The Show" today, was SO special dad! That was so huge, not only for me, but the kids who came out today longing to follow in your footsteps!

Last but not least, I wanna send a big thanks and shout out to all the parents of this year's kids! You folks are so special to believe and support the efforts of your kids! Together, we can make a difference in their lives. Thank you so much for believing in them and us, and getting them out to the C.O. Pro-Teen Classic. We totally love what we do, and a day like today with your kids, solidifies in our minds and hearts, that life is not complete, unless we're out fishing for them lil green fish!

Full results and various pics will be up on the ProTeen pages as soon as we can get them processed!

Thanks Cooch,

As always a job well done, you are what this sport is all about and what life is all about, you have given far more to bass fishing than you have ever taken from it and I know that you spend hundreds of hours to put this event on each year and are opening up the minds of these youngsters to the world of bass fishing and competitive bass fishing!

Every tournament fisherman in California should be showing up to help out at this event, not just for the sake of putting another boat in the water but to get a glimpse of how these kids truly enjoy this sport and the competition at hand; and they don't receive a dime in prize money!

Thanks again Cooch, you take us back to the day when bass tournaments where not about money but about a bunch of fun and bragging rights!

I will drive the 489 miles to be back again next year and hopefully will bring five or six Azevedo brothers with boats instead of just three of us!
