Chatterbait Rod

Post by bdyer »

Was just wondering what everyones favorite chatterbait rod was for 3/8 oz. and 1/2 oz. What are the Loomis guys using?

I fish my chatterbaits in the weights described on the IROD Swin Jig/ Bladed Jig rod. it's a great rod for both applications. $149 is a steal! look into one for sure.

Not the most rod specific technique out there if you ask me. A lot of rods will do the trick. I use a powell 734, but would not hesitate to tie it on to most any other 7foot-ish....medium-ish rod in my box. But i'm not an expert chatter baiter by any means. If I were buying new it would be a Dobyns 734C.

Any rod medheavy is good with a fast tip. Think spinnerbait. I use a Irod 7'2 mdhvy 6:3:1 ratio reel. 7'mdhvy rod could be nice too. all preference tho.

Since you specifically asked about Loomis. The new IMX SWB 904c has the perfect action for this type of bait.

12326-01 IMX 904C SWB 7'6" D 1 12-25 1/2-3 Mod-Fast Medium $295.00
A medium-power swimbait rod designed primarily for the smaller baits and open water applications. It’s light for all the power it generates. Thanks to IMX, it's very sensitive and casts smaller baits as far as you can imagine. You'll feel even the most subtle takes with this rod and when the big bite comes you'll have all the power you need!

Good luck with whatever you choose.

I tend to agree here, I fish them on my Spinnerbait rod but my preference is my MDHVY Fenwick HMG - Chitter chatter baits is a moving single bait hook - I wouldnt overly complicate it 8)

If you fish them with braid, a med. rod will work. With fluoro or mono, I think you'll need at least a med heavy to set that bigger hook. I almost always use a trailer hook, too.

Well I am frugal and dont have a drawer of disposable cash to buy a rod and reel for every new bait or technique. I throw my D&M Piranha (cause Eff Z-man company) on my Curado 100 6:1 speed reel, maybe I'm missing where a burner reel would be the difference in catching them or not but that old Curado does just fine :D
