The top 20 anglers from the 2018 MKA Motherlode Series kayak bass fishing circuit battled it out on the legendary Kelsey Bass Ranch on Saturday, 5/12/18 to be named the 2018 KBR Classic Champion and the 2018 MKA Motherlode Series Angler of the Year.

It was a hard-fought battle with all anglers posting solid 3 fish limits. Several predicted it would take over 60 inches to win this event and they were right.

Jacob Traba and Obedie Williams both brought in 63 inches. Ultimately, the big fish tie breaker went to Jacob for the win.

They were fishing opposite sides of the lake with two totally different patterns.

Obedie was on the northwest side of the lake punching lily pads and throwing topwater baits.

Jacob was on east side of the lake working an underspin with a 4" swimbait along the lilly pad and weed edges.

Third Place went to Brigham Vang Susana who was focusing on the south end of the lake throwing topwater baits for a 60 inch limit.

Damian Thao was right on the heels of the Brigham Vang with a 59.75 inch limit primarily punching.

Xiong Moua rounded out the top 5 with 58.75 inches. Xiong reports throwing a Senko all day long.

Trapper Tackle Big Fish award goes to Shadowns Vangyi for catching a 22" KBR chunk off the dam on a dropshot worm.

It was a close race for Angler of the Year with only 3 points separating Damian Thao and Obedie Williams headed into the final event. Ultimately, Damian was able to hold on to the lead with his Fourth Place finish. Damian fished strong all year posting top 5 finishes at all 3 events including a win on Lake McClure.

A sincere thank you to all the anglers, their families who support them in their fishing pursuits, and the generous sponsors who made this series happen.
