In what would wind up being one of the most dramatic finishes in RTF Tour history Ken Vanderburg and his brother Stan Vanderburg captured the biggest prize of the 2017 RTF season. Putting together a five bass limit weighing 16.54 pounds they narrowly grabbed the victory and took home a whopping $5,120.00 in cash for their days work. As impressive as their payday was the absolutely fantastic Eric Elshere Memorial Cup trophy that they were presented. Ken and Stan attributed their win to their dogmatic approach as they caught most of the fish that put them over the top in the last 15 to 20 minutes of the tournament. Sliding up on one shallow point in less than 5 feet of water caught two of their better fish which put them over the top and gave them the title. Finishing just .19 pounds behind the winners Travis Walters and Brandon LeMay had to settle for second place and collected a cool $1,120.00 in cash for their efforts. There five bass bag weighed 16.35 pounds. Just a half a pound from victory Roger Understiller fishing with his son Ryne Understiller grabbed third place and $760.00 in cash with their 15.94 pound limit. In fourth place were young guns Cody Cook and Parker Marquez with a 15.93 pound sack of fish to capture fourth Place and $210 in cash. In fifth place where the runners up in the angler of the year race Bobby and Billy Nelson with 15.81 and collected $210 in cash. In sixth place where veterans Chris Chandler and Dave DeLucca with 15.74 pounds and they collected $1,200.00 in cash for their days work and also captured the largest fish of the day at 6.04 pounds. Well known names in the fishing industry Jesse Martinez and Todd Holder put together a five bass sack at 15.50 pounds to pull down seventh Place and $160. Elliot Chang and Greg Galloway had another strong effort with 15.29 pounds to collect eighth Place and $160. Ninth Place was the father-son team of Dave Mesa fishing with his son David Junior as they had 15.06 pounds and collected a $100 gift certificate from our great sponsor Anglers Marine of Anaheim California. Also collecting a $100 gift certificate from Anglers Marine for their 10th place finished was the team at Joe Anguiano and James Lopez with their five bass limit weighing 14.70 pounds.
