Too much pretty stuff, does it add to cost ? If so plain Jane that cost less and works better

What is Abu Garcia's obsession with the round grips on the reel handles. Does anyone out there prefer them? I like the flat ones that have a tackiness to them so your fingers don't slip like Shimano.
