opion on smoke damage to fishing tackel

2006 ranger boat with smoke damage from fire. do you think it effected the lures and worms that were in the boat, the boat is fine just needs to be cleaned just wondering about smell of all the tackle in the boat . please let me know all your opinions thanks.

Smoke is tough to get out of anything. Perhaps a charcoal absorbent would help but the cork on your rods and Baits would absorb it imho

Trust your nose. Wash your cork, and smell it. Try Simple Green, or even liquid dishwashing detergent.
Same thing with baits. If it smells like smoke to you, it probably will to the fish.
Of course, you may have discovered a new, secret scent! :wink:

Go fishing more, the fresh air from the boat ride and being out in the open will get rid of the smoke smell. :wink:

Bleach wipes works wonders on cork handles. For the plastics Home Depot has 3M carbon air filters you can cut into pieces and lay flat if they’re in boxes. The carbon is able to obsorb odors. I’m not a pro on this topic but the we’re using carbon filters at our commercial buildings right now all over the Bay Area thats been affected. Good luck.

I lost the entire shop to fire back in '07. I boiled gallons of plastics for 2-5 minutes and then dried on towels, then sorted by colors and
places in gallon zip locks with my favorite Pro Cure scent in each bag....Hardbaits I sprayed
Bang on them in their Plano boxes and they were fine. Isopropyl 90 running alcohol will clean your rod handles and the outsides of your reels. It's a pain but can be done on a couple evenings. Good luck, Dan

Fish em first, They may LOVE the new scent. You may stumble on the next big thing. Garlic is a popular scent and I've never seen garlic cloves in the lake!!! :D
