Do you want SPEED then Allison, Bullet,Stroker
Speed and ride BassCat,Skeeter,Champion
All around great boats Ranger none Z series,Legend, Triton, and Stratos
There are so many models to choose from it is A matter of what you are looking for and what you can afford. Go with the biggest boat you can afford and you can't go wrong with about an of the boat companies out there. It all comes down to what you want in the end.

I own A BassCat Sabre 18'
If I had the room to store my next boat would be the BassCat Puma 20'4"
then my next choice would be the Ranger 521 VX the Cadilac of all boats

And for the price range you are looking at I don't think you are going to get A Ranger or Triton. You should realy look at the Stratos at C&C Marine they are A great boat for the price.

Triton has a couple new boats now available. One is the 18X2 which is a cut back of the TR19X. There is more storage than the TR186 and more console. The boat is a true keel length and will handle much better. It can be rigged with a Mercury 175 PRO XS and still be under 30K.
Triton also has a 19X2 that is now available. It is a cut down of the 200X2 and it will now hold a 225HP. This boat again is more boat than the previous TR19 and current TR196 with a larger platform, storage and console area. This boat rigged with a 200 will probably meet your budget. Triton Boats come with a standard 3YR full coverage on all parts and options installed at the factory. Triton also has a Lifetime warranty to the first owner and 10yr transfer to the rest.
As far a pro's and con's between the boats go there really isn't alot to compare. The Ranger has some plush things Triton does'nt focus on (padded carpet, Alum/chrome) and so on. Triton focuses more on High Performance (shallow draft, higher speeds and weight) you get the idea. Both boats hold the same numbers in resale value and thats the truth. I could sit here and say Ranger sucks and this is why but I'm not. Triton and Ranger is like Ford/Chevy debates they will go on forever.
Go have a test ride with both boats and find your pro's and con's. I'm sure other people will swear their's is the best this and that but it doesnt make a hill of beans if you dont like the boat.

I drive a Legend by choice. The boat suits me. Like they are saying it depends on the person. If I wanted to go 90+ MPH and could affored $60,000 boat, I would seriously look at an Allison.
But I dont. I like my Legend due to deck space, amount of storage. FIT AND FINISH, and the combination of an awesome ride with speed. I only have a 150 Opti and I have gotten to 64 MPH before tournament loaded, usually running 58 or so loaded. I have an LE-186, but you can find a LE-195 or an LE-186 for 30K and under. Talk to Smith RV adeventure center (www.smithdeals.com) or Frank Lazano at Inland Marine (inland-marine.com) and they could get you into a boat. Check out http://www.Ridewithalegend.com

As for Triton and Ranger. I believe they both build good boats. I dont really have any major complaints with the new models, except guys who I have talked to who own the Z-Series say that they ride rougher than the VX and the x2 Owners say they wanted more speed.

T.

I have owned 2 Rangers and have not found one bad thing to comment on these boats in over 13 years of ownership. Each boat has performed as designed, and I could not switch brands when purchasing another boat. My new boat is a 519VX, and love the ride, handling in rough water, finish, speed, storage, finish, and design of this boat.
If you are looking for a bigger boat you'll end up with more space, possibly speed, and storage, but a little less cash in your wallet as you'll need a 225-250hp and more fuel to tow and run the boat.
Eitherway, you'll love your new Ranger.

Good Luck,
Ed

I'm a Ranger owner and love my boat. I never cared for the original Tritons,, they all seemed to skinny up front and the Decks on their 20 footers were less fishable than my 19 footer. However, I road in a Triton 21X a few years ago and liked it. I fished out of a 21X2 this spring and that thing was awesome.... it sliced some brutal big waves with ease, fealt solid, had great layout, finish, fishability... I was very impressed.. enough to reconsider Triton myself the next time I'm in the market.. Having said that,, Ranger has always built a great boat and stands behind their product %100.... Not to add to your delima,, but have you given Champion a good look.... another solid choice and a few thousand cheaper than Ranger for a comparable model.

Try a Bucksbag Southfork Kickboat. You'll have plenty of room to store it and you'll still have $24.000.00 in your savings. You'll catch a heck of a lot more fish too, LOL. Just kidding, Im looking at boat's too and it'll be a Ranger or a Triton. Im battling the kind of money they want for a good used one. Im so used to slaying fish in a low cost float tube and having as much fun if not more doing so. $25.000.00 for a floating deck and a trolling motor is hard to swallow, but if I want to step up it looks as if I have no choice.
Good luck on finding your new boat.

Like Jigs said, be sure to look at a Stratos. I've owned two Stratos boats now and am very satisfied. They're a solid boat, fast and have a good ride. Plus, they now have a value pricing program. You should be able to get a bigger Stratos for the same price as some of the other brands that have been mentioned. There are some definite advantages to a bigger boat such as ride and storage space. Good luck.

Why limit yourself to just those two brands? Before spending that kind of money you really need to take off the advertising "blinders" and check the different makes. Nothing wrong with either of those two but you owe it to yourself to check out Skeeter, BassCat, Legend, Champion, Stratos, even Nitro & ProCraft. You need to see for yourself the differences in layout, construction, etc. You will start to see things that you like and dislike. Start checking into the dealers and parts/service. Then start looking at the boat that gives you more of your "likes". Try to get out on the water with as many brands as you can. Contact the company's pro-staffers for a test ride. That's kind of their job!

Bottom line is there are some great boats out there that don't say Ranger or Triton on them!
