From now until the sight bite goes off. Deep, shallow, suspended, you name it. The guys I know that do it well, catch fish year round...especially in the winter.

I guess I am needing/wanting a little more detail. I think I probably knew all of what has been said already. Those answers apply to most baits. How is the question that I cant seem to figue out.

Thanks, Wes

I told you what I know...its not something I spend alot of time doing...as far as specifics, I chuck and wind...bounce off the bottom...throw it in 6 inches of water etc

gw,
I'm no expert, but this is the way I use them.
I think of the underspin as a finesse spinnerbait.
I typically put a jr. fluke on a sworming hornet as a trailer, but ribbon tail worms and single tail grubs also work. Anything that has a good swimming action, because I'm trying to look like a shad swimming.
I cast it into boils and bring it back slow to med.
I cast it past boils, let it fall for a five or ten count, and bring it back slow, trying to interest bass beneath the surface action.
I cast it to structure, let it go to the bottom, like a dieing shad, then rip it up and let it fall again, like a struggling shad.
I think bass follow it down, and when it starts back up, they think it's escaping and hit it.
I use the tailspin the same ways, but more on the bottom, or hopping down banks where bass are busting shad against the bank. Shallow down to deep. Vary the size of the hops, and see what works. Again, I think the bass see it as a struggling shad, and hit it when it starts up again.
I fish a jig the same way sometimes, and so do a lot of other guys, and it works.
All of this I learned from other people, or just by trial and error on the lake.
Hope this helps.

There are a handful of guys that fish DVL on a regular basis that are experts with these baits. Maybe they will post and give up some pointers. Last time I gave up some info during a underspin bite, I got some nasty emails. But this is a bass fishing forum and we should share. Plus, karma comes back. I use both, but don't claim to be an expert. My spin on Tailspins - deeper, colder water, off points, worked uphill or along rip-rap dams. I also fish them vertical, like a spoon or an ice jig. Underspins - Super light line finesse presentation, tossed at breaking fish that are feeding on smaller baitfish that seem like they won't eat anything else you toss at them. Like said previously, use it like a tiny spinnerbait and you will get bites. A great trailer that I use is the 3" Berkley Gulp Alive Minnow (Secret stuff). It looks natural and leaves that famous scent trail. During pre-fish at the last FLW Series event at the Columbia River, the smallies under the bridges crushed it. Hope this helps. TL

I caught a 4lb fish in the last Puddingstone night tournament on one of my long black and blue flake Mcspin. It was caught in about 16 feet of water on my first cast with it. We took second place that night with 18lbs.
