If you had the choice to get a new boat what would it be...The new Skeeter FX with the Yamaha 250 SHO on the back....or a new Triton 21 HP with the Mercury 250 Pro XS Optimax....or the Legend Alpha 211???

Josh I would be happy to meet with you, let you get the chance to run the Triton TR21X with a Pro XS and see how that boat may fit your needs. As far as the other boats I don't have much of an idea on them.

I know there are a couple of TR21XHP's out here that you can save thousands on, get the 5 year warranty on Mercury. Drop me a line or give me a call if you would like to meet up and run that boat.

If you fish FLW, WON Bass, Anglers Choice, FPT or the Hook Series there is extra money in the Triton Gold Program.

Drive the TR21 before you buy anything

big josh15,
Everybody is going to tell you what they drive is the best which is fine. The best thing you can do is try them all.Check the storage compartments to see if they will be enough for you to hold what you need in your boat. fish from the front when its a little choppy and ride the boat when its choppy.Do this to all three boats.Take the bad and good out of them and pick the one you will be comfortible with.Good luck and let us now what picked.

Champion 198 up all the way the best for rough water and speed too bad they are not made now find a used one and save big bucks GREAT BOATS ..Skeeter next...they build em right.. Skeet and Mike Mc got it right and still run them (Champs) the best in my book..I run a Skeeter and wish for a Champ and the front deck space ride and all..

Take a ride in them all, Kent will let you take a ride with him. Any body that supports these other boats should do the same.

I strongly suggest you get in and use some stuff in each boat of that type that are at least 1 yr old. It is obvious some boats just don't hold up and spiral to 'junk' way too quick. Look at what each turns into in a year or two.

Frankly, my thoughts are : there are basically three bass boats Rangers-Champions--and ALL the others. Right now, a Champion purchase would sadly be in need of serious thought.

Champ is now making a comeback. Production has not started as of yet. The production will be done in the ranger plant in AR. Plenty of great deals on used champs right now too.

I f I bought new now it would only be one of the real High performance rigs. Allison, Stroker,or a Gambler. Bullets are fast and cool but not my style.

So the best answer to me is going to be, try them all out. That seems like a good idea. Thanks again everyone.

If you have a chance to ride in the FX with SHO, you won't have too many more questions. That motor is unbelievable. I'd put it on the back of anything/

My 21 foot Legend is a 2006, it has been rode hard and put away wet. it has a lot of scratches and some dings inits skin. typically I have run it at two speeds regardless of the weather or water conditions.
My two speeds are dead stopped and cahones to the wall.

It does not with over 600 hours on its Merc 225 opti have a single stress crack any where on the hull that I can find. It handles rough water better than any boat I have ever ridden in and it corners like it was on rails.

Would I like a new one??? Yes, but only if they can guarantee me that the new ones are as good as their 2006 model

Dont take my word for it ride in and drive them all then after you find out that I am right go down to see frank at Inland marine. He will take good care of you

Jim

you can get a 2010 Ranger Z-521 with a 250 (whatever brand you desire) for far less than 70k out the door.

Nice post. I am sure you got lots of PMs about this issue. Here is an opened response regarding the Legend Boats.

I believe that if your do your homework that you will find the Legend Alphas to be to be a superior value over the competition. Yes, these other manufacturers make good boats too but I think if take a hard look at performance, quality, value, layout, and customer service you will see Legend stands above the competition. After taking a ride and checking them out I think you will agree.

There are a number of these boats in the Delta region and I am sure that Frank at Inland Marine or some of his pro staff would be happy to give you a test ride.

If your going to be further north of the Delta, say at Clear Lake, Shasta, Trinity, or Whiskeytown, give me a call or PM me and we'll rendezvous for a day of running and fishing in my 08 Alpha 211 (w Pro XS 250).

I own two Skeeters one with a two-stroke the other with a four-stroke. Both are Yamaha 200 HP motors. I love the four-stroke because I don't own stock in any oil company. The way to test a ride is go to Lake Mead with 20+ mile an hour winds as see how they handle it. I will put the Skeeter ride up against any bass boat on the water. The real thing comes down to the driver.

Remember 2 things. Boats depreciate rapidly and it is a buyers market. There are great deals to be had on great used boats. I have a TR-21 that is 11 years old and it is in excellent shape with a 225. it was $12.500 and it's almost paid for.

Free and clear is a great feeling cause gas alone will get you, not to mention tackle and tourney fees if you are in to that. There are a lot of great boat builders out there. The more you look for a specific brand the harder your search will be for a great deal. I can do 65 but my home lake speed limit is 40. I have been to lakes where I can go all out and I used twice as much gas. A 50 gal tank = over $150.00 in fuel and I have done a 3/4 tank in a day, that is not cheap when you have to tow to the lake or take trips to fish and need lodging and meals too. Then there is insurance and luxury tax, it goes up proportionately to the cost of the boat, even more if you want to insure your tackle. The cost of my electronics is about 1/3 the cost of my boat.

I have as much or more in rods and reels as in my boat and the same goes for my swimbait collection not to mention all my other tackle. If you are really in to bass fishing you will want quality and technique specific rods and reels. Get what you can afford just see the whole picture and think it through. To me it feels better to not have a big payment and interest is fairly significant. I want to catch fish more than I want to have the current years boat and probably have 25-30K in tackle not to mention the boat, those little things add up. If you can afford all that and $60.000 or more for a boat then I hope you find the brand new boat of your dreams. Get what you want, just do your home work as far as how much it will really cost you.

Rich

Take KB up on his offer and run the Triton. I think you will see it has everything you need and more.

Look at all the poachers, he didn't ask about Ranger or Kitty cats..lol

You will love the Legend. Unlike some this boat is a smooth ride and the boat is close to driving itself. You will need to drive a triton. The Skeeter is a good boat as well. Champion well not sure if I would think about that just yet. No new models either. But hey you will make a great choice no matter what. I hope you get in a boat soon and whatever it is you will be happy.

I have to side with the Legend. I have a Cobra 216 and If I had to replace it I would go with a boat from a similar build. Cobra, Legend,Hawk and Champion all were influenced by John Story.
