Can some one give me the run down on the specs of the vintage Shimano Bantam Mags. I own a mag 100sg for shallow running cranks.I bought it for its 4:7 ratio, Honestly one of my favorite reels. First fish I caught was an 8lber. I was just wondering if someone could shine some light on the time line or history on these reels. I wanna get a 10xsg the black version when I find one in good condition.

Thanks,
Derek

Shimano Bantams: The 1st 15 Years

By Phil White

Offered here is a new book for the reel collector or vintage tackle fishermen. This book was published in September 2008, and has received excellent reviews.

SHIMANO BANTAMS provides detailed information about the first three generations of Shimano Bantam casting reels, starting with the silver Bantam 100, and concluding with the introduction of the popular "C" series of Bantams, the Chronarch, Curado, etc. These Shimano reels are described in detail, and every model is illustrated with a color photograph - most including the original box. The book contains 198 pages with 285 color photographs.

The main parts of the book provide complete information about the original or 1st generation Bantams; The 2nd Generation reels (Magnumlites, SpeedMasters, Beast Masters, etc); the 3rd Generation reels (Chronarch, Curado, etc). Details on each model include: the years each reel was catalogued, gear ratios, weight, line capacity, bearings, introductory list price, features, and the Shimano reel code. Information is also provided in chapters covering early Japanese Market Bantams, Bantam Go-Withs, and the codes, charts and timelines that will make your collecting more informative and easier.

This book is 8.5 x 11 inches, 198 pages, and spiral bound with a soft cover.

Thanks Guys, Both those sites I have used previously. I just wanted for infer on the real difference between the mag1000 and the prior 1000. Basically is the Mag better then the regular Bantam.

I would check out Phil's book. I scanned several pages from older catalogs to aid him in his research. Unfortunately someone decided they needed the catalogs more than we did and took them home.
