Turning on SonarCharts

I was fishing a tournament last week and I had several guys ask me about their Navionics mapping cards. Two of them had Platinum or Navionics + cards with SonarCharts on them, but neither of them knew that you had to turn that feature on in their plotters to access the charts.

That is some great information. I will add that I get a lot of questions about updating cards and sonar logging. Here is a second link that goes step by step on how to sonar log based the OEM unit.

So, once I turn on the recorder, what exactly am I recording, my trail, or the bottom contour, or structure? I'm learning the capabilities of my 1198/998 combo...

You are recording the depths and data in your trails and sonar. This data is used to update the contours for the lake. You upload the data onto a SD card and then onto the Navionics website to update the map of the lake.
