Report: Well Rich and I headed back out to CFW to try our luck again in the boat and on the lake. It was a little chilly no doubt, but the fish...well they were in the mood to bite! Had the best day ever on CFW numbers not many in numbers (18), but the overall quality of the fish was great. Several several fish 15" to 16.5" in length that's a positive for this reservoir.
    City: Plumas Lake

Tips: As I stated in my last post, have patience. We worked out tails off for those fish it took eight hours to get that many, just have fun. Plastics of course DH/DS and jigs, no reaction as of yet.

Report: Went out with Rich on the inagural re-apperance of my boat "jessie" on the water. Our trip last year on clearlake when my optimax crapped out for the third time, my baby was all beat up. She did well the first trip out as usual we shall see how the next few trips go. On to the fishin. We got on the water bout 2:30pm fished till 6:30 landed 10, missed another six to eight fish. Light bite as stated in the earlier post, darterhead/DS was the ticket no reaction yet. The fish seem a tad healthier this year given the low lake conditions in the past. It's not on fire yet, but staging is in the process, saw one that was likely on the bed but not locked on yet. Good to get out and set the hook!

Report: I was there yesterday Thursday March 25th. Only saw two other boats one fishing for bass and one fishing for trout. We didn't get on the lake till 9:00. Wind was blowing , overcast and 58 degrees air temp. Water was 54 degrees and visibility was 1-2 feet. Got a few taps. Ran up the Bear River arm an water was 55-57 degrees caught three on tubes and worms. Move to Goat Ranch and found the warm water 58-60 degrees caught three all on tubes. All fish were shallow less than 3 feet. Graphed a lot of fish suspended and staging at the first break.

The spawn is close and it will be big.

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)

Report: Just to let you know that I drove by the lake this afternoon and with all the rain we had this week, CFW is now full. It is not going over the dam but everything is covered and from the road, the water looked pretty good so if you're not fishing a tournament this weekend CFW should be pumping out some nice fish.

    Water Temp: 53

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Took the Padre out today for a much needed fishing trip. Started out with clouds and fog and no wind. We both picked up spinnerbaits for the early try at some up shallow. After about 2-3 casts each, I hear from the back "got one" as I watched him fight what seemed to be a nice one, I continued to reel back my spinnerbait. As it got almost to the boat a nice 2+ spot decided to make a last ditch lunge and hooked up. Well be landed the "double and the back took "big fish" with a 3.2 largie. We had a solid 11+ limit in about 1/2 hour then the clouds broke up and the wind came up. The bite slowed until later in the day when we picked up 6 in the last hour. Total for the day 16 with only one "dink" and about 11.5# Fish came on the tube, jigs rip bait and Spinnerbait.
    City: Roseville

Tips: Fish came from 5' to 20' and just fish your favorite spots with your favorite baits. The water temp is about 3-4 degrees from the place going nuts!!!

    Water Temp: 49-52

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: What would the weekend be without a CFW report? I knew it would be tough today with the cold fronts and rain along with a full moon and I was right. All my normal Rock Creek spots produced a big goose egg along with all my main body areas so I headed to the sulpher cliffs around noon (lots of coffee today) and the entire day changed. Landed over a dozen in the deeper water working a tube right along the walls where the sun was heating the cliff facings. Lost one of the biggest bass I ever had hooked at CFW and saw her surface twice before she took off straight ahead and I couldn't spool line off fast enough and got snapped off. It was at least a 5-6 pounder if it was an ounce. A real heart breaker! The water was a lot cooler and muddier in Rock Creek and cleaner in "the pits" where all the action was today. Wound up with an even dozen with best five keepers going a solid 12 lbs today. Lake has really come up with the latest rain storm and is only 3' from full so the storm this week will definately finish filling it to the brim.
    City: Wheatland

Tips: Find cleaner water and depth of 20-25' and you will find some nice fish, especially if you have rocks heated by the sun. Once again, the magnificent tube produced all the fish today although the bite was tough and had a hard time getting them to commit to the hook in the first 3 hours of the day which has normally been the best catching time. A nice warm front of 3-4 days without rain and it will be on like donkey kong!

Report: Launched at 7, tried fishing in shallow waters in the morning, couldnt get nothing. Then we went to deeper water (15-25ft deep) and looked for warm temps. I caught 3 and my dad caught 1. Biggest fish about a 2 1/2lb. We left around 1 with 4 fish in the boat. (released)
    City: Yuba City

Tips: Use Tubes, Spider Jigs, and Cinkos. We found fish in warm temps, we stayed in clear-ish water. its really muddy in some places.

    Water Temp: 47-50

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: To coin the Southwest commercial, Get Your Bags, It's On! What a beautiful morning and the lake was virtually empty but the bass were waiting in anticipation for whatever you wanted to feed them. Conditions were wonderful as the lake is about 12' from full pool and I was finally able to get to my "honey holes" back in Rock Creek. My first fish was a nice 3 pounder followed by a fiesty 5 lb largemouth. I took over 18 pounds of bass from Rock Creek in less than 2 hours, of course released. Headed to the main body and had a field day once more on tubes and Senkos. Running out of coffee around 12:30, I called it a day but chances are pretty good I'll be back tomorrow. This place is turned on so enjoy the bite while you can and before we get run over by power boats.
    City: Wheatland

Tips: Looked down the throat of the first bass caught to determine what color to throw next but it proved that the tail of the shad sticking out was identical to my tube color. Always look to see what they are eating to match their meal. I worked reaction baits with no success but tubes and Senkos were the ticket. Toss near submerged shrubs and work it slowly and I had a light bullet weight on the Senko in watermelon and they ate it up and when they bit....you knew you just got hammered.

    Water Temp: 52

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: If I thought it was good last week, forget about it! Today, Mike and I caught and released over 35 bass and every one was a tournament keeper. Perfect day weather wise and they were really on a fanatic bite. Saw quite a few more boats today than last week while seeing others catching them too. Had plenty of coffee today so stayed until 3PM and stayed busy all day.
    City: Wheatland

Tips: Tubes, tubes, tubes. I throw them on a 1/4 darthead that tends to get it down a lot quicker and I can control it better. Headed to Rock Creek and caught 3 on first 3 casts and the bite just died........for at least 5 minutes! Worked in 20-25' of water but on the main body, many were right on the bank down to 5'. Caught a couple nice ones slow rolling a black/blue chatterbait. Great day so get out and enjoy.

Report: Water is at 50 % and the concrete ramp is in the water, need more rain. The boys from NorCal Bass Ratz and I fished from 9am to 2:30 using deep crank baits frist thing. Only got two but good keepers, one about 3.5 lbs caught by George Corp. Then we started dragging a 3/4 oz jig and got 10 more. We trid rippen but nothing at this time maybe later next month. Travis Bounds boated one, Joe Miller boated 6 ports that were 2 lbs or better. Bonner Veasman boated four and I got three.

Tips: Water is gold work it slow

    Water Temp: 46

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Started and finished the day with water flat as a pancake. Launch was easy as water and dock are great and the water was gin clear. Really tough bite and saw 2 boats leave after less than 2 hours on water but persisted after fishing some of my spots near the launch and up Rock Creek a short way. Decided to head to the rocks below the road to the dam and picked up a nice 2+ on jig and then headed up the main body working a tube when I noticed it hanging on those submerged sticker bushes so went to a chatterbait and knocked one on the 2nd cast, another nice 2+ and they both had nice color and fat as footballs. Although it was overcast, having no wind made it tougher and it was tough even finding them on the graph. Things will only get better and the good thing about today was the launch dropped from $15 to $10. CFW must have gotten one of those stimulus checks!
    City: Wheatland

Tips: If I had a patten, I could give a tip but no pattern but the black on black jig and black/blue chatterbait is what produced for me today. No jet skis or power boats makes this a great winter lake to fish and with the water on the rise, bite will get better every day.

    Water Temp: 73-75

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Got a late start, on the lake at 1100. Cloud cover was still abundant. Got to my first spot and caught best fist 2.5lb spot on a shallow diving crank bait. Bout 40min later caught final bass of the day on ghost colored on LV500, went 14.25in in length, not huge but a great fight! Other than that caught a nice bluegill on a drop shot. Lots of bait fish in coves and on the edges of points near trees. With all the available food, the fish were not really interested in my offerings. It was good to get back on the water though, it's been 11 months since my last outing.
    City: Plumas Lake

Tips: None to speak ofBring on the clouds, and the reaction strike that usually goes with it!
