    Report: Chabot has to be the worse bass fishing lake in the Bay Area. I've fished it over 10 times now in the past 4 years with only 3 bites and two fish. Both fish were small at 1 1/2 pounds each. And each time I see a fellow Bass fisherman, they too are skunked. Anyways I went last weekend throwing the usual (senkos, jigs, luckycraft's, etc.). I fished all over without a bite, and without seeing any bank fish. And I know my lack of success is not due to my lure selection or presentation since I've caught plenty of bass at lakes with similar structure on the same lures. I'm giving up on this lake. Props to all you guys that have caught fish at chabot as I've seen in pictures. The pictures of lunkers on this site are what have been making me try over and over again. Anyways good luck to all you die hard Chabot fisherman, maybe there is some sort of secret that I don't know about.

    Report: "The more the better but when you have helpers dumping trees killing 13lb bass it only makes me wonder just why we are trying to establish a better habitat for them" what the hell do you mean? this makes no sense. Establishing better habitat does help out the fishing at chabot, maybe not immediately but later on down the road.

    Report: Chabot is a tough lake, but if you fish it hard and fish the right places you will catch some fish. I like to fish the lake from the burner to the alder pt. area this time of year. If you just want to catch fish, split shottig 4" worms will work if you fish them very thoroughly around any drop offs or weed beds. For larger fish, I tend to throw 1/2 oz. jigs with brush hog trailers. Castaic trout and M.S. Slammers will also work, but there is a short window of opportunity with those baits. The fish seem to be spawning late this year, so if you walk the bank in that area, you just might come across big momma.

    Tips: Fish slow, thorougly, and often. Youll probably only catch one or two bass every two or three outings, but the ones you do catch are usually nice. Keep on fishin' and the persistence will pay off, sooner or later.

    Report: To the person who submitted the report as any: You've had 10+ bass days? I havn't even caught 10 bass at chabot out of probably 30 trips. The bass I have caught have been nice healthy fat bass however. What do you reccommend using and what side of the lake do you concentrate on? I'd sure like to have a successful day for a change. I'd really appreciate any help, I just can't figure out bass fishing at Chabot.

    Report: something happened in the lake about 2 years ago they need time to recover xmas trees are a good start i grew up on this lake and it was always a producer of big bass hopefully it will come back plus all the good spots that most people kept secret are now over fished i used to get laughed at for bass fishing in this lake but i always caught 10 plus

    Tips: between coots and alder there are some deep ledges that still produce well dropshot 3 inch worms slow and try adiing a rattle also use sent kickin bass has always done well for me and look for other bass fisherman there is a group of locals who dont talk about were they fish but keep an eye out they ussually konw were there at

    Report: Surface temperature was approximately 59 degrees and the visibility was about 2 feet, very hard to find bass on beds. Me and a friend only saw one female and caught 4 very small males(less than 12 inches) on senkos. Seems like the males are starting to become aggressive but no luck on anything big. Not sure why I'm not seeing females with this weather so nice. Saw about 5 dead catfish floating on the surface today, and about 20 during the past week, not sure why so many are dieing. We came across tons of carp spawning in the back of bass cove. Whoever likes carp fishing, I suggest heading to the very back of bass cove where the water level is about 1 foot. They were all over the place, some 10+ pounders with half their body out of the water. Wish we could somehow get those suckers out of there. Learned in the Marina that two big female bass were caught and kept during the past couple of weeks(one was 11 pounds and the other 7 pounds). Too bad. Don't understand why people don't just bring a camera and scale. Anyways, better luck next time.

    Report: The cover program is a go. Saturday January 10th 7:30 am 2004 will meet at the boathouse as we did last year. we will have coee and donuts sponsored by BBAC, then drive down to the loading site and start dumping trees. We estimate 3-400 trees at Chabot. Anyone that lives close to a x-mas tree lot please spread the word to call Pete Alexander at 510-258-2211 to arrange drop o. BBAC will provide receipts or the lot owners so they not only get the write o but do not have to pay to dump the unsold trees. Its a win win or everyone. Ater the dumping, we will all go to quarry lakes Ensonata Picnic area or the BBQ o Tri Tips and the works or lunch at 2pm sponsered by the parks dept. Volunters are asked to wear boots and bring gloves to help. So dress appropriatly or the weather. I hope to see a good turnout

    Report: The ishing was very good or bass during the later part o October, right up to these overcast conditions. I believe some Bass experience a late spawn at Chabot, as I was locating several big bed ish, and am now seeing clusters o what appears to be bass ry all over in bass cove. I caught and released an 8 1/2 pound bass on monday 10/27, when I released her she returned to her bed within 3 minutes(she had a hook scar, catch and release!). During that week I released 5 bass in the 1 1/2-3 pound range and 6 or 7 less than 12 inches. The tree program seems to be helping a little already. All ish were caught rom shore inessing worms in areas between Coots Landing and Bass Cove. I didn't have much luck all summer, but as soon as the temperatures started to cool, the bass became agressive. When the lake "turns over" once in spring and once in all, the bass ishing seems to be the best or me.

    Report: On Saturday(4-19) I went out to Bass Cove looking or some big bass on beds. I saw a bass about 6 or 7 pounds in a cove near the point, so I ished her with some plastics but she wouldn't hit. I then resorted to a nightcrawler and threw it out about 10 eet past her, in slightly deeper water. Ater approximately iteen seconds, my line began to go out so I set the hook, but it wasn't the bass. It was a 21 pound 4 ounce lake record trout. You would think a ish this enormous would put up a ight, but it was basically dead weight. She ran a little but gave up ater about 30 seconds! I was using 10 pound trilene on my 7'0 IMX. I was hoping she would at least run a ew times but I guess she was just too old. Anyways I bought a derby ticket that morning, since during the past two weeks, I've caught 2 trout over 8 pounds while ishing or bass(which I released). I was thinking o putting this trout back, but when my 20lb scale lashed "Error", I knew It was over twenty pounds and had to take this ish in to the Marina. As or the bass, I nailed a 4 pound 2 ouncer and one about 2 pounds ishing pockets o tulies in honker bay o shore.Email me i you want to see the trout.

    Report: I ished rom 3 until dark using dierent types o senkos. I caught my irst bass ater about 1/2 hour between alder pt. and coots landing. It hit on the drop and weighed aprx. 3 lbs. I caught my next bass at the sticks right beore dark, it weighed about 4 lbs.

    Report: COVER PROGRAM FOR CHABOT AND QUARRY LAKES. WE NEED 120 VOLUNTEERS TO HELP FOR THE COVER PROGRAM JANURARY 11 8:AM FOR BREAKFAST PUT ON BY (BBAC)BLACK BASS ACTION COMMITTEE. WE ARE TO ASSEMBLE FOR BREAKFAST AT QUARRY LAKES THEN WE WILL SPLIT UP AND SOME WILL GO TO CHABOT AND THE REST WILL STAY AT QUARRY. ANYONE THAT HAS CONNECTIONS FOR ANY CHRISTMAS TREES NEEDS TO CALL JON WALTON 352-3932 FOR FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS. THERE WILL BE A CATERED LUNCH AT QUARRY LAKES AT 2 PM WITH TRI TIP STEAK AND THE WORKS PUT ON BY THE PARKS DEPT. PLEASE GET THE WORD OUT. EVERYONE IS WELCOME THE MORE THE BETTER.     Report: Great News, BBAC, Dept Fish & Game, The Biologists John Walton "Waltons Pond", and mysel met at a special call meeting to discuss the problems with lake Chabot. There will be no more shock and transportation o bass to quarry lakes. Whats even Better is that the parks Dept has given us permission to build artiicial reis in the lake by using Christmas trees and other allen trees along parkland trails to be put in the lake to get the cover back into the lake. This is great news. Trout isherman need not to worry our ocus will be along the east shoreline rom the point o the Island through hal moon bay to bass cove and along the edges o Honker bay. We are going to need volunteers to help us. We expect to have over a 1000 trees to distribute in mid January. Please keep this in mind. Also ater the ecocycle is created at chabot we are going to go to Quarry lakes and start a cover program there as well. I think its great that the parks Dept and us Bass isherman can work together to make ishing better or everyone to enjoy. I hope to hear rom some o you in the near uture because everyone has everything to gain rom this and nothing to loose. Once again THANK YOU

    Report: went ishing or trout around the dam area, and let to ish or bass ater catching one small trout. Decided to ish a steep drop o I know near the dam, and threw out my pig and jig. On the irst cast I elt a slight tap and set the hook, bringing up a 5lb. bass with the lure. Threw out a ew more times then gave up a happy man.

    Report: Fished rom 5-8:30pm throwing everything i had at them. Many bass were chasing shad out o the water in ront o me but nothing was hitting any o my crankbaits or spinner baits.

    Report: Tried crankin a couple o hours in the mornin and again in the eve with no bites.I seen a couple o cruisers and had a couple ollowers but that was it.My buddy lost one on a T .
