  • Report: Los Vaqueros Reservoir
Plants of trout continues to spurs the action. They are being caught in South Cove and Oak Point as well as Peninsula Cove. The baits of choice for shore anglers is garlic-scented PowerBait, nightcrawlers or Kastmaster lures. Trout average a pound and a half but range to over 5 lbs. Light tackle is important for catching trout with 4-6 pound test being plenty. Trout fishing is still decent, especially in the morning, with limits being caught around the reservoir and more fish being caught overall. Lots of limits are starting to show up from South Cove and from boats around the lake.

    Water Temp: Upper 50s

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Cruised the bank casting for bass. I hooked two fish both around 22". Lake was at previous full pool . Good time to get out take some pics mark some structure build some too. I think a lot of the big linsiders have been harvested. Didnt see all the Asian fishermen as I did in the past, this and the fact that trolling for trout has improved tells me that the biguns numbers have dropped off considerably. There are signs that stripers are spawning in there too. Look for this fishery to improve a for a few years following the rise. I think there is better potential for this lake than the harvest everything you catch model at least a slot limit on the bass.

Tips: Get out there catch some fish and release the bass.

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: My son managed a 4 lb. bass on a dropshot rig. He was fishing a limited edition "shad" pattern Roboworm from Outdoor Pro Shop. I landed a 15 lb. Striper on a Huddleston.
    City: Antioch

Tips: To get into bass, we found fish very near the bank but where it dropped off quickly into deeper water. The shallow flats which surround this lake aren't producing yet...for bass! The stripers will move shallow if there is a chop on the water. We watched the stripers busting trout in shallow water in the middle of the day. Big swimbaits are working, but you must commit to throwing them quite a while.

Report: If you aren't targeting stripers on the Brentwood side, you are missing out! "Punkers" off the points are the ticket at sunrise. After sun up, "trout" basstrix on a spintrix head fished slowly on the bottom gets the thumbs up! 3 fish from 6-13 lbs. for the day. You don't need a boat, but make the hike...a long hike...well worth it!
    City: Antioch

Tips: Punkers and swimbaits off points that have deep water on at least 1 side....

    Water Temp: cold

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Fished the north side and threw everything from dropshot to big swimbaits and jigs. Nothing going on. Thought I might find some fish on deeper points near coves but I couldn't get anything going. Had 1 peck on a football head jig but that was it for bass. I did manage 8 trout on 1/2 oz redeye shad...largest was 19" and the rest were the size of the Rago swimbait I was tossing.
    City: Antioch

Tips: Need some consistent sunshine to get the fish thinking about moving up shallow. I will keep at it in between trips to Contra Loma where the bass have at least staged on areas just off spawning areas.

    Water Temp: ? shore fished

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: We went in from the brentwood side, My first trip to the lake. Started at the peir and worked our way west along the shore line. Fishing for bass the lake was down about 10' from full and there wasnt much stucture to speak of.We walked about three miles in and caught three fish total as wind made it difficult to make long casts. First lm was approx 1.5lbs on a football head and smoke hula grub second and third were caught on a six robo warmouth on a darthead. fished for all of six hours. 2nd fish went approx 4.5 and third went approx 5lbs.
    City: knightsen

Tips: Go early n get out before it warms up in the afternoon. we saw four rattlers coming back through the rocky areas on the shoreline and wear bug repellent! total 5 ticks found crawling on pant legs. Im guessing fishing is a lot less risky in a boat but then again I hear the prices are pretty high!
