Report: Rumor has it that there is not enough calcium in Ruth lake to support the mussel. It appears the H.B.M.W.D. wasted a lot of money and time be for they had all of the facts and test back. As for the boat inspections it sounds like somebody missed a livewell full of spots. I wonder who inspected old Spotchasers boat

Report: Ruth Lake is now doing boat inspections. Make sure your boat is clean, drained and dry. This is an actual physical inspection ,not to be confused with the so called inspection at Clear Lake. The fishing has been poor for me ,quality seems to be a little better the numbers seem to be way down. I caught an 11 inch fish saturday evening that looked a little different , after looking a little closer it was a spotted bass , what kind of a idiot would do that. Has anyone else caught any spots? This lake needs all the help it can get , and planting spots wont help .
    City: Eureka

    Tips: release the big ones.

Report: TOOK THE WIFE AND KIDS UP FOR ABOUT 3HRS THIS MORNNING AND CAUGHT A COUPLE FISH. TWO KEEPER SMALLIES AND SOME DINK LARGEMOOUTHS. DIDN'T GET TO DO WHAT I WANTED, TRIED TO GET THE KIDS INTO ANYTHING TO KEEP THEM INTERESTED AND KEEPING THEM FROM GETTING HUNG AND WHAT NOT. I fished for an hour when they were not messing around and caught 2 keepers, it's not that bad, still a little early and I bet the bite would of picked up had we stayed until afternoon.

Report: Maybe its too early to tell but it apears Ruth may be on a downslide again.A recent tournament was quite disapointing to many anglers with 39 entries 22 did not way a keeper fish. This may be a cycle or the fish may be stunted again because of too many small fish.If you want a bass fry please take the 12 to 13 in. fish or take the pan fish or tout.If you catch a good fish that you want to have mounted you do not have to kill it. Take the measurements length ,gearth and weight and a photo, there are many places that do replicas.Fishing presure could be another factor with three tournaments scheduled for this spring and heavy prefishing preasure for several weeks before each tournament could really effect the bite. After the last few years of quality fish it would be a shame to see this lake revert back to what it was before the 15 in. limit was taken off.

    Water Temp: 60-65 - 82 outs

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Had a great time fishing this beautiful lake for the first time! My buddy Mike and I caught 25+ fish for the day! Tossed the float tubes in about 6:30 down at the shallow end and within 10 minutes Mike had three 1+ pounders landed - but I recovered with my first fish about 15 minutes later at 5+lbs! The rest of the day I got a 3+ and several 1-2 lbers!I won the "big fish" and "most fish" battle between us! Busted out the fly rod for some great panfish action too!
    City: Santa Rosa -&- McKinleyville

Tips: First fished 6" Senko - Black w/Blue Flake for the 5+lber. Switched to purple/brown Roboworm no weight - fished super slow lotsa fish -tons of bites. But the best "quantity" color was by far the brown Roboworm weightless and slow fished - They loved the slow fall and usually hit on the way down or right after the first twitch! Watch your line too - had alot the just picked it up and started to cruise - pay attention!

Report: We wanted to get a whole day of fishing in, but didn't actually start fishing until 9:30am. First trip to Ruth this year. We stuck over 80 fish in about 6hrs. We had one solid 6lb on my 3rd cast he hit 2 times before I stuck him. I had to change plastics. Also about ten in the 2 1/2 to 3lb category. approx 17lb bag limit.
Not a bad day for Ruth Lake. Gotta love it practice catch and release.
    City: Fortuna

Tips: When pulling up to the spot you want to fish, don't give up after catching a couple fish. The bigger fish would come after we landed the smaller more aggressive fish. Good Luck
