Report: Got to the lake late so the reaction bite was not happening at all,Fluke's and Jerkbait not one follow. So broke out the old Anchovie's and ran to the dam to fish the trash rack's.Was flat calm in Portiguez cove but when i got to the dam man it was like an ocean 3 foot swell's easy.First drop fish on 3lb's.Second drop another one but by then after the third swell over the bow i thought safty first and headed back to calmer water but no fish there. Then about noon it laid down some so ran back to the dam and was catching fish allmost every drop.Anchovie's with smallest weight you can use and just mooch like your Salmon fishing.
    City: Salinas

Tips: Use caution over here it can be down right dangerous. The only people catching fish with consitancy were boat's with electric motor's so your line is straight down not at an angle from drifting to fast.Fish are only down 25 35 feet over 230' of water.

Report: I've been fishing the O'Neil forebay the last couple a weeks(when it hasn't been raining)Water is highest I've seen in quite a long time and more rain is coming. Two weeks ago after trolling for two unproductive hours I threw in a zara spook and for two hours the bite was fast and furious. Needless to say I took home 2 nice 20,22 inch stripers but what suprized me was the 6lb and 4lb black bass that also hit the spooks. I would say top water bite is on. Going out tomorrow if it doesn't rain and am expecting to slay them.
    City: los banos

Tips: Find the right spot, be patient.

Report: My freind and i went over to the oneil forebay today and caught a few. Nothing real big the average fish were from 2-4lbs but I'll take what i can get.We got there late in the day and threw some lures for a bit trying to find some active fish but not much luck there so we drifted a little and picked up a few. Weonly fished for a couple of hours and did o.k.
    City: salinas

Tips: If you're planning on going to san luey go to the big lake and hit the dam with big rattle traps or head to porteguese cove throwin zulus or hair razors. Then if you don't have much luck DEFINATELY drift live shiners anywhere you graph fish1

Report: Fished the Forebay today, heavy fog in the morning, lifted a little on the south end but not much. It was real cold out there but no wind all day. Lanched at 7.30am. Started at the spill way, one blow up on my buddies super spook in bone color near the buoys, I hooked a 15" on a american shad color lucky craft rip bait about 15 yards off the rock wall next to the buoys. Then hooked a largemouth a few casts after on same rip bait. Next peice of action was on the flats. Two more 15" fish on the rip bait, and my buddy hooked a 18" on a blue back, babyblue body swimbait in 5" size with a 1/2 oz. head and a small largemoth right after. Then hooked a couple of shakers on a rat-l-trap in the same area. A few more blow ups on the spook and then the day was done. Off the water at 2:00pm.
    City: SanJose

Tips: Best action came off the flats in about 8-12 feet of water. Positioned my boat on weed lines and butterfly casted along the weed lines and into open water. Didn't get to stay for evening bite but the evening bite has always been the best for me on the flats. Ripbaits(color according to water clarity), 3" to 6" rubber swimbaits with at least a 1/2oz. in shad colors. Larger baits for larger fish. The stripers like the baits presented fast, fast rips on the rip bait. Cast swimbaits and let sink to botttom and then burn it back home. Most action on super spook came when the spook disturbed the water a lot and made a ruckus on the surface. Burned the rat-l-traps too. Hope this info helped a bit. Any tips for me, I'd appreciate it.

Report: Got there about 2:30. Started out fishing the weedline with a beaver and rattle traps and caught 8 bass from 1.5-4lbs. plus a few missed bites.Once the sun got low stripers started busting all over the lake.I started throwing a spook into them and it was on!! I caught a fish on nearly every cast until it was damn near dark.Awesome afternoon and evening on the O'neill.Just try to catch and release! I know they're good to eat but this fishery has enough people keeping every legal fish they can get there hand's on.
    City: San Jose

Tips: Spook's for the stripe's on top.Beaver's and rattletrap's for the bass.

Report: Well it's the lonley angler again.Got on the water at 6:30 lake is dropping pretty fast typical here they send most of it down to la la land.First stop about halfway down to porti cove i saw some fish working the surface thought they were going to be carp.Well to my surprise they were striper's but they wernt boiling like they normally do just a fish here and there.so i started with a spook but all they did was follow it to the boat.So i switched to a large pop-r they were all over it.Nothing big average about 18" but every now and then i would catch one about 4lbs.The good part is they were in real good shape some had a pretty good gut on them.Latly the fish here have been real skinny.that dried up about 8:00 so went farther into the cove and found a spot where they were so thick about every 10th fish i would snag them using a jerkbait. They were all small fish though.you could actually see there dorsel fin's and just before the lure hit the water the whole school would go crazy.Never seen anything like it before over here.
    City: SALINAS

Tips: Call 1-800-805-4805 before you go to get the wind update allthough it was like glass when i went.

Report: Hey Mike, About them skiers and kids you encountered----ain't nothing. I've seen knuckleheads actually BBQ next to the ramp. And your cry for the rangers, good luck on that. The engineering corp handles the lake now. Don't worry about kepping your daily bag limit either, they never check. It's kinda good to thin the fish population though. They are too skinny, like there is no food in the lake. The limit should be 10 just for thinning purposes.
    City: Bakersfield

Tips: Find the school and throw anything bone-white. If school can't be found, drift anchovy 100 ft deep.

Report: The lake is in great shape and coming up daily. A little off color but very fishable with about 2-3 vis.. We Launched at Dino Pt and fished in that area for the first couple of hours and also spent some time graphing for bait..couple of missed fish and two small ones to the boat...Went looking out on the main lake off some island tops for a another grab that also came up empty..Finally setteled down on main lake points for some 20-24" fish..Bait was hard to find and quality Stripers even harder. We had are chances that didn't convert into fish..it happens sometimes
