Partner got a dink on Rapala floating jerk bait, green olive herring pattern. Cranked the shore with shad pattern 12' diver but no bites. Hit the point just after the no wake zone at the north end. Marked a bunch of fish but no bites. Pitched the weed bed just after the point, still no bites. Jerk bait on the dam with flashminnow, got bit but he spit it out! Water was gin clear up there too. Hit the inlet at the north end and got a couple bites but no hook ups.

    Water Temp: 57.5 (Calereo)

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)

Report: Funny story. Read Bigboybassbuster's report below about Coyote opening Thursday 14 April. Made sense to me since it opened on a Thursday last year. So I took the day off from work and talked a co-worker into coming along and off we went.

Get to the lake and see the big "RAMP CLOSED" sign at the turn in for the lake but proceeded anyway with a sense of forboding. Heading up the hill we see a white Nitro coming back down. Stop and chat and he confirms lake doesn't open till the next day. So we all head off to Calaro.

The surprising thing was HOW MANY boats were on Calero. Counted at least 12 on a Thursday! I know at least 2 of us read BigBoy's post. Shows you the power of these reports. (Or the gullibility of those of us who read them ;)

All's well that ends well. Here is my Calero report:

Had a good day at Calero.
    57.5 deg, windy, muddy
Got 5 all on C-rigged Zoom Baby Brushhogs in JuneBug or green pumpkin. Biggest 5.2 full of eggs. All caught shallow near pea gravel banks.
    Please practice CPR.

Report: I headed over to the dam area after work around 5:30pm tons of fish jumping. Water is very low, I don't think I have ever seen it so low. Started with plastics and no takers. Threw in my LC minnow sp and had a taker but it got off =(. Few minutes landed another around 4-5-lbs. Nothing else all evening. I fished for about 2 hours.

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)

Report: Arrived late morning and skies where partly cloudy. Caught fish shallow in 2-4 feet on flats with the largest going a little over 3 lbs. The afternoon byte was tough, all fish came on spinner baits. Tried the trees with plastics and nothing havppening. Got off the water around 4:30 when it started to sprinkle, good thing because a huge thunder storm came in within 1/2 which was pretty nasty. Water clarity is still pretty low from all the rain this winter.

    Water Temp: Unknown

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)

Report: Hit the lake in the morning from 7:30-12:00. We tried texas rigging, jigs, spinner baits, cranks, and not a single bite. The water was an ugly brown chocolate color and visibility sucked, so again we tried larger baits, going rediculously slow and still nothing. Going to try next weekend and see if the lake has settled, but with all this rain exepected who knows.
    City: Salinas

Tips: No tips because I didn't catch anything lol.

Report: Very slow day for us and the few other boats we saw. Caught a dink on a split shot worm then got a nice 5.12 on a T-rigged worm. Thanks to the Red Ranger who had a working scale and helped me fizz it so it could go back down. Got too hot so left at 1300.

    Water Temp: 73-83

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Lots of dinks (9), biggest 2#. The lure-de-jour was a Texas-Rigged straight tail worm in watermelon candy.

Couldn't get a reaction bite with cranks or buzz-bait in the morning. Guess the fish don't read Ba$$Master magazine.

Spoke with the inspector at the end of the day who said they are talking about closeing the lake for the season on Oct 15.

Tips: Please practice Catch-Photo-Release for the future health of our sport. That Japanese guy killed his world record for what? Its gathering dust in his room and now he is trying to sell it. Hah!. A replica would have been just as good.

    Report: Opening Day!

Took the day off in hopes of getting a bigun. Lots of other guys had the same plan. Lake is full. Did OK. Got 4, biggest 4#10oz on a green pumpkin Senko. Spent the day fishing the stickups at the West end. The creek in back was muddy.

Others did well too. Witnessed a 7# and 6# caught, both on Senkos. Most I spoke to had fish.

At the end of the day the guy who bands said someone had landed a DD.
