DALLAS (June 24, 2004) — The winner of professional bass fishing’s prestigious Forrest Wood Open will be on the “FLW Outdoors Presented by Wal-Mart” radio program this Sunday. The Forrest Wood Open presented by Kellogg’s, taking place this week on Lake Champlain in New York, marks the sixth and final regular-season stop along the 2004 Wal-Mart FLW Tour prior to the circuit’s championship. Also on the show will be the Land O’Lakes Angler of the Year as well as “FLW Outdoors” TV co-host Taylor Carr, who will share his insight on the qualifying anglers heading to the championship. Rounding out the lineup will be regular guest and Ranger pro-staff guide David Vance.
The tournament, which began Wednesday and will conclude Saturday, will determine the top 48 anglers who will compete in the prestigious $1.5 million FLW Tour Championship, scheduled to take place Aug. 11-14 on Logan Martin Lake near Birmingham, Ala. The top pro finisher at the championship will take home $500,000 cash – the sport’s largest guaranteed cash award. Also decided by the results on Lake Champlain will be the Land O’Lakes Angler of the Year, a title that opens the door to big opportunities, including heightened exposure to sponsors, which can greatly help an angler secure a career in professional fishing. The angler will talk Sunday about the experience of winning the coveted title.
Carr – who can be seen on the Outdoor Life Network, which broadcasts “FLW Outdoors” every Sunday from 1-2 p.m. and again Thursday from 5-6 p.m. Eastern time – will talk about the pros who qualified for the championship. Vance, known as one of the best guides in his home state, will give an update about where the best bass fishing is this week in the great state of Texas.
