Two world champions will compete in the 2nd annual Eurobass Cup

Tommy Martin and Mike Iaconelli will compete

Valladolid. August 2005.- This year’s Eurobass Cup II will count on the participation of two world champions for the American team. We are talking about Tommy Martin and Mike Iaconelli, winners of the prestigious Bassmaster Classic in 1974 and 2003, respectively. These world elite bass fishing sportsmen will form part of the U.S. team that will be competing in the second edition of the Eurobass Cup on September 20th and 21st at the Reservoir of Ricobayo (Zamora).

Martin and Iaconelli head a team of twelve professionals and among those the best specialists of this type of fishing are found. The professional career path of each angler demonstrates this.

The Eurobass Cup is a competition, organized by the Semana Ibérica de Caza y Pesca (Iberian Hunting and Fishing Week), which started out in the year 2004 with the objective of bringing together anglers from the United States with those from Europe for a championship of quality and prestige. The excellent results of the first edition have contributed, without a doubt, in making the Eurobass Cup known. This spectacle of two teams, each composed of twelve sportsmen, can be enjoyed once again this September.

The American representatives accumulate earnings of more than five million dollars in their sporting careers, in some cases careers started in the 70s.

Team Europe

On the other hand, the European team will be composed of four Spanish anglers, four Portuguese, two Italian and two French. They are David Espax, José Luis López, Eloy Fernández, Javier Guillén, Helder Maia, José Mendes da Cruz, Pedro Félix, Herminio Rodrigues, Paolo Vannini, Stefano Sammarchi, Frédéric Jullian and Frank Rossman.

This will be the first participation in the Eurobass Cup for Eloy Fernández, and Javier Guillén from Spain, Paolo Vannini and Stefano Sammarchi, passionate anglers of bass fishing in Italy, and the Frenchman Frank Rossman, president of BASS France. The rest of the European team is already familiar with the Eurobass and Semana Ibérica. In fact, the Portuguese Pedro Félix was the only European angler to earn a point for the European team in last year’s first round of competition and Helder Maia achieved third place in the general classification, after Iaconelli and Jack A. Gadlage.

The development of the Eurobass Cup is an event for anyone interested in the sport of fishing, from the boat launch to the weigh-in, taking place at 6:00 p.m. at the boat landing of Ricobayo on the 20th and 21st of September. This is a place where spectators can access free of charge and see the intense competition live.

The award ceremony of the Eurobass Cup will take place on Sunday the 25th of September at the Convention Center of Valladolid, in the Trade Fair setting of Semana Ibérica and where national and international distributors and manufacturers will be exhibiting all types of equipment for the practice of these sports. The most important companies will be present in the 2005 edition.

Furthermore, the Trade Fair Convention Center of Valladolid will again be the stage for seminars given by American professionals to European amateurs. This activity, which has been developing since the first calls of Semana Ibérica, has been converted into a classic given the interest that arouses among the anglers, allowing us to get to know up close and personal the techniques and materials the best specialists are using.
