LAKE CONROE TO HOST WAL-MART TEXAS TOURNAMENT TRAIL CHAMPIONSHIP

CONROE, Texas (Sept. 20, 2005) - The $1 million Wal-Mart Texas Tournament Trail presented by Lay's will stage its season-ending championship on Lake Conroe Oct. 15-16. Hosted by the Lake Conroe Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, the tournament will feature 100 of Texas' finest pros and co-anglers casting for their share of $195,000 in cash and prizes.

The 20,000-acre impoundment will offer anglers lots of shallow water opportunities when the championship comes to town. The shoreline has some sparse grasses, hydrilla and standing timber, but the main sources of cover are brush piles and boat docks. Anglers will be scouring the lake's many docks in hopes of finding a lunker like the one the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department shocked in 1998. The behemoth weighed 14 pounds and to date is the largest largemouth bass ever shocked in an electrofishing survey in Texas.

Conroe resident and championship qualifier, Ronnie Wagner believes it will take 35-38 pounds to win the tournament. "It took 29 pounds to win a jackpot tournament here last week, and there were several 20-pound limits the first day of the tournament," he said.

Anglers take off at 7 a.m. each morning from the April Plaza Marina and Motel in Montgomery. Saturday and Sunday's weigh-ins will be held at the Wal-Mart store located at 18700 State Highway 105 West in Montgomery beginning at 4 p.m.

Texas Marine and Ranger Boats will provide free food and demo rides in a selection of bass boats, fish and ski boats, and bay boats at April Plaza Marina from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. during both days of championship competition. Everyone who takes a ride in one of the demo boats will receive a great gift. Anyone who can't make the demos can still check out the Ranger boats on display during the weigh-ins at Wal-Mart.

The winning pro at the TTT Championship will earn as much as $70,000, which includes a Ranger 519 VX powered by a 200-horsepower Evinrude or Yamaha outboard, Minn Kota trolling motor, Garmin electronics and EverStart batteries plus $15,000 cash. If the winner meets the Ranger Boats contingency guidelines, he will receive an additional $20,000. Snickers will award $1,000 to the pro or co-angler who catches the heaviest bass during the TTT Championship. Castrol will award a $500 Wal-Mart gift card and $500 of Castrol products to the highest-finishing co-angler wearing a Castrol shirt at the Championship.
